I think a new centre back is top priority followed by w mobile defensive midfielder without the erraticness (is that a word?) of Fred.
Ole seems unwilling to give Tuanzebe and Bailly a proper run and Lindelof should be no more than a squad player.
The two most important things in football, scoring goals and stopping the opposition scoring them.
A striker who scores 25 goals (or a RW) and a top quality CB then we'd be 10+points better off.
Trouble is, we've clearly changed tact now, and we're investing the big money in youth whilst trying to get bargains in the experienced player category. So we won't be getting the Harry Kane and Ruben Dias (exampled) we need.
Until we sort out the goalkeeper position, we'll continue to leak goals and be poor at playing out from the back.

A great striker can cover up inadequacies else, so that first.
We may have sorted out our RW problem with Amed and Fecundo.
Keep Bailly fit and we are good to go at CB.
Therefore get Haaland at almost any price.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Not sure two players with a combined 20 games in adult football are the solution to our problem.
I agree on Haaland though. One player I'd happily make our record transfer. Worst case, Madrid court him in the future and we get a big fee.
I know a top CF wouldn’t go amiss but scoring has not been a problem outside of the bigger games in the league which is as much to do with teams being negative against us also.
We have 2 players with 40 goals between them this season who aren’t CF’s.
Liverpool strolled to the league last season without a CF and City have spent large parts of this season without one.
City and Liverpools styles mean a CF isn't required to score goals.
The CF role is pivotal to our setup.
Haaland at United when his dad is a City legend and he is a Leeds fan seems like a fantasy.
Could see him at City though.

I don't think those sort of things matter as much as people think, certainly don't think it would be on the agenda when he's talking to Raiola about his next club £££
Why the feck would his dad care?
If City and Leeds aren't options, do you really think he's not going to move for big money because his dad "supports" a rival?
Even though we are the 2nd highest scorers in the league, scoring goals is still an issue. In the 26 PL games this season we've only managed to score more than 1 in 10 of those.
Imagine if our centre forward could be relied upon to get us at least 20 PL goals a season, it would make a huge difference. Creating is also an issue and why RW urgently needs improving (whether that's Diallo or someone else).
I'm sure players would love to play for their favourite team if it's a suitable move but I highly doubt it stops them from moving to rival clubs, let alone their clubs their parent played for.
A RW who can produce stats similar to Rashford would be a gamechanger for us.
Thing is, for the likes of Greenwood and Diallo to develop to their full potential, they need minutes.
Dan James certainly isn't the answer though.

Totally agree 1 goal against the top 6 is shocking. Just shows where are forwards really are. People say we only scored a few goals less then City. But 15 of them goals came against 2 teams who totally collapsed. When it really matters they don’t turn up.
Haaland isn’t ever going to play for us.
It is a family thing. Ole knows the guy and has spoke to him on United.
He wouldn’t be at Dortmund if he was ever going to play for us.
Why wouldn't he?
Dortmund have clearly shown time and time again that they are a great club to join to develop at a young age and who are willing to sell them on.
Keane's foul on his Dad or the fact he played for Leeds and City has absolutely nothing to do with any potential move to us. If he decided to move somewhere else it will be simply down to a club offering more financially or a better chance of silverware.
He’s a Dortmund player – we just wish him well there and let’s see what life will bring later on. You know I can’t speak about Erling because he’s at Borussia Dortmund, and it’s disrespectful to talk too much about it, apart from that I know him and I speak to him. Who wasn’t interested in him a year ago? Everybody would say you would take the best players in the world and Erling is a top player.

In an ideal world these would all be positions that we address in the summer. However if we recruit a top CB (scouts you're up) and a signing like Haaland I think that would be a great summer in the current climate. As said previously, we have plenty of options, in CM especially if Pogba resigns and Diallo, Greenwood and James to cover the RW
We've needed a quality long lasting DM for probably more than a decade now.

Yeah, a destroyer who can also score goals
Not sure if those players really exist anymore but defintely someone who can screen the defence, keep things ticking and enable those ahead to do more damage.
A DM is needed but is probably the most difficult of those to fill. We need a real, top class player there both on and off the ball and I'm not sure how many there are around. For the moment our CM options are adequate and will probably do for another season or so.
CB - again needed but a difficult one. Lots of talk about Varane recently (possibly a ploy for a new contract with Madrid). On paper he's a brilliant fit but his form has been shaky for a while I believe.
RW - should be the easiest position to fill. We'll go back in for Sancho I reckon but if its still a no go, we should be looking at Pedro Neto.
CF - Haaland will go nowhere this year I don't think - his release clause kicks in next year I belive and I reckon Dortmund will hold off until then. We might wait for him but it would be a risk as we'd be competing with virtually every elite club in Europe. If we get a right winger I think we'll just end up giving Greenwood more of a chance up there.
Realistically I reckon 2 of those positions will be filled; RW and CB. Wouldn't be surprised to see a Telles type signing at right back either.
While I think Sancho would clearly improve our RW problems I just can't see us going for him again now that we've spent over £30m on Diallo and Pellistri, neither of which were bought to fix our problem quickly.
Even if we could get Sancho cheap where does that leave Diallo and Pellistri? When money is tight, buying 3 players for 1 position would be pointless.
We are not actually that well-stocked out wide though.
Diallo and Pellistri are totally unproven. James is a squad man at best. Greenwood, as I said, I think will be used more and more up front next season especially if we can't bring in a CF. And Martial is at something of a crossroads at the moment- if a decent offer did happen to come in for him I think we'd let him go.
As for where it leaves Diallo and Pellistri? It leaves them exactly where they should be at this stage of their career - behind the more experienced first teamers. Plus, the likes of Sancho and Neto are just as comfortable on the left as the right. It allows for a massive degree of rotation and flexibility across those front 3 positions.
I get that but it was still a lot of money to spend, especially if we do go and get Sancho too. When the squad needs imrpovements in a few areas, potentially buying 3 player for 1 position when all 3 are of a similar age would be a bit silly.
Also, the Diallo and Pellistri signings seemed to be a panic reaction to not getting Sancho in the first place, had we managed to get Sancho then I highly doubt we would have both those 2. I assumed Sancho is a lot better on the right and wasted a little on the left?

------------------------------
Not really. He's actually arguably better on the left - which is important too. We really lack on that side when Rashford doesn't play there.
I take your point about financial restraints this summer, which is why I think only a max of 2 of those positions in the OP will be filled. And looking at potential options i think a winger is likely to be one of them.
