I'm not even mad at Sanchez. At least it was a proper attempt at a last minute tackle not just a brainless shove or whatever. If Lacazette hadn't have shanked it he might've blocked the shot
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I am with you. Not really a mistake. Spurs lost the ball and a superb ball by Pepe put Lacazette in. No fault of Sanchez marking there, and Lacazette took a great first touch to put him in a position. Sanchez trying to recover was just trying to block the shot and who knows, if Lacazette had actually made contact then you'd be taking about a brilliant block. Its only because he missed that the contact was deemed a penalty.
I've tried looking to see if Jenas is right, and while him missing the ball might cause his leg to come over more than it would had he fully hit the ball, I still think Sanchez's body knocks into Laca and brings him down after the strike, whatever.
If Oliver waved play on and did not give a penalty, nobody would be talking about it.
Penalties these days are handed out like confetti to some clubs, unfortunately Spurs are not one of them.
Either way it's pretty sad that none of us really think the penalty cost us the game or that the result wasn't entirely justified by the performance - sad times.
Yeah I'm convinced watching it again if Lacazette hits it on target it's a great block. Sanchez has to make that challenge imo

Ref was Michael Oliver.....that's all you need to know.
Really difficult one but I'd say no penalty.

It was never a penalty - the striker missed his shot, was off balance, actually kicked the defender and fell over

Clear a penalty you will ever see. If it was Luiz on Kane the card would have been red
It wasn’t a red. I’m saying Luiz would have been sent off
So you’ve made up a scenario to highlight your complex? Hi Billy
I think you’ve misread my comment
What’s to misread? It was literally two statements. First point I agree it was a penalty. Second one was making up a hypothetical to play the victim.
People always make hypothetical statements with football. Nothing unusual about it. And nothing out there with what I’ve said
Plus you asked me why it was a red when I never said it was a red, hence my comment on your misreading my 2 simple statements
He took Lacazette out, if you foul someone off the ball 10 yards from the action it's still a foul so the fact he missed the shot is irrelevant. Don't even understand why there's a debate about this, it's a blatant penalty.
You've deleted my comments and I understand why as I got a bit personal. My bad.
But it's just ridiculous suggesting it's lacazettes personal responsibility to have perfect control and not try to get a shot off just because Sanchez is a clown and took him out.

He actually kicks Sanchez...even the player himself said he was lucky to get the penalty and happy that they got the call. So unless you closer to the action than lacazette I would take his word over yours that it was a very very weak pen.
He was lucky to get the pen because he made a balls of his shot and Sanchez handed him a 2nd chance
Its a follow through from the shot.
I repeat, you're asking him not to shoot because Sanchez took him out.
And yes it's soft. But it's still a pen.
