fridgeboy, I think your analysis is sound. (Not surprising, since you agreed with my post!)
Also, regarding the 'gentleman's agreement', I don't think it's even unreasonable to void it if the circumstances mean a deal financially acceptable to Spurs can't be done. No chief exec will give a nod to a gentleman's agreement that says their star player can go *at any price*.

Completely agree but surely it would limit Spurs' ability to retain a motivated Kane if that line has already been used. Doesn't mean he gets to leave (I don't think he will) but increases the risk of retaining an unhappy player.
its all well and good people like sandy saying that he will go for a world record fee or this much or that much... but absolutely noone has any idea if there was any type of clause in his latest contract saying he could leave for a certain fee if CL football wasnt achieved
Sandy I think you need to be a little more respectful for a player that has literally done everything he could for this club. It’s the fault of the owners and Levy for not providing enough quality when given that opportunity which is the reason why this club have failed to compete and win trophies. Harry Kane has broken records left, right and centre: 100% he’s a Spurs legend just as much as Greaves. Him not winning anything doesn’t change that. Maybe his team mates haven’t been good enough because he’s head and shoulders above any of them. Harry Kane goes, Spurs go back to mid table mediocrity. It’s as simple as that.
Just had a quick look online now and apparently there's something called the Webster ruling:
Webster Ruling: Specifically, it states that any player who signed a contract before the age of 28 can buy himself out of the contract three years after the deal was signed. If he is 28 or older the time limit is shortened to two years. Article 17 was introduced in December 2004, with effect from 1 July 2005
https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2008/jan/31/rugbyunion
I'm not saying he would do this as it doesn't seem to be something clubs do. Perhaps an unwritten agreement that clubs adhere to?

No one here can know for certain but Levy has been with us now for over 20 years. He has a certain way of operating and it would be completely out of character for him to take a risk like that. First of all, it makes no financial sense. You lose the CL money and suddenly you agree to sell your prized asset for a lower fee? No chance. You might "agree to sell" but certainly not at a specific fee. It will more likely be "agree to listen to offers". That's a completely different ball game.
Levy just doesn't do risk.

If I were Levy, I'd try to convince Kane to stay one more season (like United did with Ronaldo in 2008) on the promise he's allowed to leave the following summer. There's reason to believe the market will be more favourable in 12 months, with buying clubs' finances in a better position and more clubs in the market for a centre forward due to the recruitment cycles. Play it well and Spurs get another year of service, and a bigger fee at the end of it, and Kane doesn't feel demotivated.
I still have big doubts that a deal can be done this season. Too big a gap between what Spurs would need and what buying clubs can afford. Too much a risk of funding Spurs' rebuilding project while snookering themselves from investing across their squads.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

You are just trying to make yourself feel better Sandy if he’s sold. The whole “Harry Kane is good but not that great “ scenario. Load of cobblers mate. Harry Kane is an outstanding striker and probably the best currently in Europe along with Lewandowski. If he stayed at Spurs, he would no doubt be breaking Jimmy Greaves record. 1000000% percent. I really don’t think you appreciate just how good Harry Kane is. You will see, if he does go to city and he starts banging in 40+ goals which he is more than capable of

Eh? He is pretty much identical in goals to games, in fact a touch better.
https://youtu.be/j30nEIZU0WA
So it is clear he wants to join a team that can win trophies and play in the CL so he most likely is off. Hopefully he doesn’t go to Man City. I have a feeling Ole will get him as we haven’t had a top premierleague striker in a while. Someone who will score when it is 0-0 and tight with half a chance. Kane thinks if Spurs are offered like £100m he can go. To be fair to Kane he can say he will be worth a lot less in a year or two time.
