OK I'm not saying Leicester are the model club in football. But they won the league and everyone expected it to be a one off flash in the pan. Since then they've won an FA Cup and are on the verge of qualifying for CL. They've sold their best players but replaced them well and have a young talented squad. That's to be applauded because they have sustained a level of success - I don't think anyone can argue with that?
I'm not saying that Spurs need to become Leicester, I'm just saying that they are a great recent example of how to operate without spending silly money.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I agree Leicester are doing extremely well right now. But let`s be fair Spurs have had a far better team than Leicester over the past five years, so should not have had any excuses for putting trophies in the cabinet at WHL. Leicester have a 34 year up front, Vardy and Johnny Evans as their mainstay CB. Spurs have had world class CBs, World class midfielders, World class Strikers yet always bottle it when it comes to winning something. The mentality has to change at the club more than anything else. Kane himself has never ever turned up in any big match for Spurs when it really matters. He just goes missing everytime.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Kane has been in 3 finals. All 3 coming against much better opposition than ourselves. One when he was young and marked out of the game and the other 2 when he was rushed back from injury in order to play.
I bet you if he was playing for the teams we were playing against he'd have bagged a few goals.
Also the one season they were in the CL they got to the quarter finals and only went out to a one goal margin against Athletico. Not to be sniffed at!
Anyway I'll stop my Leicester love in
I want to be optimistic about Spurs, but it's hard right now especially if Kane leaves because what message does that send to the others (particularly Son).
Bale, Walker, Eriksen. Modric all left Spurs specifically to win trophies and they have done. I feel we were so close a couple of years ago and we missed our opportunity, this summer is going to be HUGE in determining whether can compete again or we're sliding back to top 6 / 8.
sandy, like any organisation the attitude all stems down from the very top.
i know you are reluctant to question the hierarchy but they obviously making some incredibly wrong decisions for the last 20 years in one way or another has seen 1 league cup in 20 years to show for it.
cant just keep blaming the players, when they do end up leaving to win things. its not on them even though clearly they could always do better.
Cus fans cry when we sign players they have to Google because they haven't watched a non spurs game since 2012

That's one of Spurs biggest problems of recent years, you haven't had any 'World class' players there apart from Kane, but for some reason you believe/d they are world class. Everyone else, even at Spurs peak, were just good players and a good team, never been world class imo.

Blimey, I think top 6 or 8 would be some level of achievement once Kane goes. I can see us drifting back to the mid table obscurity of the 90s and early 2000s. Those repeated 11th place finishes are ingrained in my memory so much that it kind of feels like our default. When things aren't going right, we'll go back 'home' and lie dormant for a bit. We've hit a stale point just at the wrong time. Covid has decimated our finances so we can't really freshen the squad plus we have an ill-timed stadium to pay off.

I tend to agree with this. "World class" is often overused. I'd say to be world class you kind of need to be good enough to be in the starting 11 or on the bench for a world all star team. Kane would be in that bracket but no one else. You're talking Messi, Ronaldo, Mbappe, Neymar, Kane, Lewandowski etc. People like Son are in the next level down, probably along with Vertonghen and Toby in their prime. Never world class.

Toby and Verts, world class!?! Only by deluded Spurs fans. Very good players but not world class.
I's day for at least one season, probably two, they were among the best CB pairing in Europe. Debateable whether they were world class players, but as a partnership they were pretty fantastic

What has getting relegated got to do with anything?
Liverpool bought Robertson from Hull after they got relegated. That didn't turn out too bad did it?

As has already been hinted at above, they were an excellent partnership and as such played beyond their individual abilities, but neither was world class without the other. A world class pairing, absolutely yes but as individuals, no way.

I don't agree personally, as someone said earlier, they made a good/solid pairing for a season or 2 but i still don't think that made them World class. In theory, any team having 2 WC CB's and a WC forward all at their peak, and good players around them would have won something, anything imo.

In that position, you're looking at the likes of VVD, Ferdinand, Beckenbauer, Ramos, Cannavaro, Nesta, Baresi. You just can't put Verts and Toby anywhere near that lot. Brilliant partnership but not in the same league.

VVD's 'one good season' at Liverpool eclipses Toby's career at Spurs. Anyway he was decent at Celtic and Southampton before Liverpool. VVD was the player of the season in the league last season and I have not seen an impact of one player at a club since Kante moved to Leicester.

Toby and Verts, world class!?! Only by deluded Spurs fans. Very good players but not world class.

I's day for at least one season, probably two, they were among the best CB pairing in Europe. Debateable whether they were world class players, but as a partnership they were pretty fantastic

Berge - decent but got relegated

What has getting relegated got to do with anything?
Liverpool bought Robertson from Hull after they got relegated. That didn't turn out too bad did it?

Spurs have had world class CBs, World class midfielders, World class Strikers yet always bottle it when it comes to winning something. The mentality has to change at the club more than anything else.
----------------------------------------------------------
That's one of Spurs biggest problems of recent years, you haven't had any 'World class' players there apart from Kane, but for some reason you believe/d they are world class. Everyone else, even at Spurs peak, were just good players and a good team, never been world class imo.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I tend to agree with this.

Everybody knows your opinion doesn't amount to a hill of beans.
As has already been hinted at above, they were an excellent partnership and as such played beyond their individual abilities, but neither was world class without the other. A world class pairing, absolutely yes but as individuals, no way.

Prime Verts and Toby were classed as WC

I don't why I am wasting my time with this Sandy fool LOL
