Also, the DoF is a strange one too. If you accept that his appointment is largely down to the fact that we've acquired Conte, then what happens in 2 years when Conte leaves? It feels like the DoF, supposedly in place for long term consistency, is in place to align well with a manager that won't be there long term.

There's plenty to be concerned about with Conte but he's obviously not going to be a total failure like Jose
It's more a question of "is he going to be successful enough to justify signing a bunch of 33 year olds and delaying our project by another 2 seasons?" Rather than "is he going to be successful?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Levy has never signed 33 year olds.
Even with a DoF Levy will have final sign off and whoever comes in will be told that they will have to utilise the academy where possible and most signings will have potential rather than being the finished article.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
If Conte, famous mad man who tries to chin executives
when they tell him they're not going to sign some 35 year old wing back, agrees to work under those conditions than that is great news
I find that unlikely though
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I dunno. I think you're over simplifying what he did and why he did it. Signing Ashley Young as a wing back in Serie A is very different to doing it in the prem. And I mean, it worked.

I'm not anti-Conte, I'm just not seeing this as a good fit for our club. He's obviously a very good manager when he's given the tools. When he's not, largely for financial reasons, the gripes start. Our model is not set up for a manager of this type. If he's given a fortune to spend, it will work and happy days. But this is Levy. He never, ever budges on finances.
It's a very, very good square peg but it's about to enter a round hole.
I'm still holding out for Poch.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Fridge I'm intrigued what's your model...?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Uhh? You mean what's my preferred model for Spurs? Long term planning, academy focused and young, but cheaper, talent. think Alli, Eriksen Sonny before they became stars. That's Levy's preferred model but it didn't fit with Jose and I have my doubts that it will fit with Conte. Time will tell, I guess.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
The reason is that I think we dipped our toe in that model with Jose and it went badly wrong. I get that they're different managers but they do share some similarities...
1. They're both short term
2. They both require large funds
3. They both kick up an enormous fuss when those funds aren't given.
All three points go against every philosophy Levy holds dear. He wants a project man that can work on a relative budget who isn't a PR disaster. That's why Poch is the standout candidate.

Agree with this although have our resources improved? I don't think they have. they're worse than they were in fact as we have a stadium to pay off and now two massive loans that need paying back on top of that. We're more broke than we've ever been. That's a reason to stick by the model that 'wasn't working' before.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Well you termed it "our model'... Which is far as I can see hasn't been too successful... So why not go out on a limb and try conte

Kane is in the shop window, has ambition... I somehow don't imagine it's for the European conference League...if it is...you deserve to keep him
----------------------------------------------------------------------
He wants to leave just like the rest of us but it doesn't work like that, life isn't fair.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Ok you're going to have to explain that to me.... What the hell is the rest of us got to do with anything...? He's your biggest asset by a country mile
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You just said kane is in the shop window, heard of window shopping?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Do you seriously think that Kane is going to stay with you, if the likes of city-united or us off offer the right money... Irrespective of the Euroshop window he is in we already know what we are potentially getting
----------------------------------------------------------------------
he has 3 years on his contract. Spurs dont have to sell. So there is no certainty he will go.

That's Levy's preferred model
---
But it hasn't delivered real success. It's enabled us to make lots of money and get a new stadium etc, which is nice..
----------------------------------------------------------------------
No its enabled us to consistently be the best of the rest behind those who have had considerably more resources than Spurs.
I would suggest now that our resources are improved, our focus will be slightly altered, capable of adding a bigger name or two while continuing to buy potential and bring them through, like the ones you mentioned
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Agree with this although have our resources improved? I don't think they have. they're worse than they were in fact as we have a stadium to pay off and now two massive loans that need paying back on top of that. We're more broke than we've ever been. That's a reason to stick by the model that 'wasn't working' before.

All I'm saying is if Kane has any ambition of winning anything in his career he has to move... If however he's happy winning the European conference League then fine
