If you don't like modern comedy, then I imagine you should stick to the old fashioned comedy clips on YouTube, or just watch shows like Citizen Khan on whatever streaming services they are on.
An actor from Citizen Khan is not an expert on comedy (quite the opposite, actually). Their opinion on the matter holds little more weight than mine or yours.

It is quite funny how those on the right have painted this narrative of “Labour think the working class are especially stupid” but never back it up. Almost as of it is a false narrative created.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Read back, dude.
"Ordinary people are dumb" was a quote and not from a Tory.
Hartlepool voters labelled thick after voting Labour all their lives and for decades, until this year, LMAO.
Why do these thick racist working class types not vote for Jeremy??
Labour debrief, lol.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
So two points,
1) AFAIK the poster is not a spokesperson for the Labour Party, has never been in such a role, does not speak for any member of the Labour Party or even is a member of the Labour Party.
2) the person said all people are ignorant, which is objectively true. Regardless of how they vote we are all ignorant in some respects.
3) Jeremy Corbyn is not part of the shadow cabinet, nor has he been for years.
So again, a false narrative is being created and peddled. TBH I’m a little disappointed you’re getting sucked into and perpetrating the narrative.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Two points, numbered to 3.
Ordinary people are dumb....I take it back, lol.
You do not think red wall and working class voters feel a disconnect between the party and people, as Starmer said that....and Labour are addressing that today, yet again.
Has Jeremy left?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It was a Phil Leotardo reference from the Sopranos, a coupla three things.
I am glad you implicitly acknowledge that Labour do not think voters are especially thick, as that was just twaddle. It would be great if you could correct the record explicitly, but baby steps.
I assume your sentence starting “You do not think…” was a question and not a declarative statement on what I think. Assuming it was a question, despite the lack of punctuation, I don’t think some of Labour’s messaging has been particularly effective. I can’t claim to be a mystic looking into the minds of those in the red wall. As I’ve said numerous times before, when people are really struggling, after decades of conservative underinvestment and austerity, they become increasingly pragmatic. Or, to put it another way; desperate. As WWSPD noted on the other thread, investment decisions appear increasingly political by this government, and so one can understand how a desperate person would feel strong-armed into voting for a party that does not care about them.
Jeremy Corbyn, as a backbench MP for Islington, has about as much influence or impact on the lives of those in the North East as I do, and I find your almost voyeuristic fascination with Jeremy Corbyn truly and continually baffling.

Ricky Gervais still makes TV shows. No one has ever stopped him.
Family Guy, South Park, American Dad! are still going.
Father Ted, The Inbetweeners etc are all still regularly shown on freeview television.
There are loads of British comedies still being made. Ghosts, Plebs, Back, Not Going Out, Inside Number 9 etc. Last year we had a new season of Friday Night Dinner. Still Open All Hours is keeping the Open All Hours series going. There are a few on the subscription channels too like Apple TV and Netflix.
Some comedies don't age well and become less funny over time. That has always happened. Its the modern way to show faux outrage and blame everyone else for that though whilst pretending comedy has been cancelled.
I think the bloke claiming that your stand Brit isn’t actually thick is hilarious given he just said the standard Brit didn’t vote for ‘Jeremy’ in Hartlepool
Comedy needs a victim, that's what makes people laugh.
Comedians are too scared to offend any type of demographic now because of the backlash they receive on twitter etc I think people who complain about certain types of comedy are the definition of a real snowflake.
We should all be able to laugh at each other.
GB News, nothing special.
It was a Phil Leotardo reference from the Sopranos, a coupla three things.

Comedy should punch up.
Which doesn't mean what people think it means, but it essentially boils down to the same thing: comedy should go after those in power as opposed to the powerless.
I like Eminem, but I prefer him when he's beefing with those on a similar standing to him, rather than going after Britney Spears and various boybands.
He's not still talking about Britney Spears is he?

GMTV discussing how the woke would ban An Fab or Citizen Khan today, with Jennifer Saunders saying wokery now would have cancelled Ab Fab...
British comedy being cancelled by wokery, lol
Modern life is boring.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
A load of nonsense. This is the sort of faux outrage culture that is taking over and has led to things like GB News becoming a things.
Usually comes from the same people who moan that things like The Inbetweeners have been cancelled, because it has moved streaming platforms.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Read again, GMTV, where an actor from Citizen Khan presents and said woke cancel culture would likely prevent his show nowadays.
Following on from Jennifer Saunders saying wokery would prevent Ab Fab being made now.
Honestly, pay attention and think outside your box.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
She can say those things all she likes. It doesn't make it true.
Its a big thing now to pretend that comedy is banned. This completely ignores that there are loads of comedy shows still being made and the older ones (like Ab Fab and Citizen Khan) are all still regularly shown on TV.
Carry on with your outrage at a hypothetical situation though.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It is not me you need to address.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
?
You're the one who raised this on here. Are we now pretending you were just posting it so people could go and speak with Jennifer Saunders about it?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Dearie me.
It is all over the news about Saunders saying wokery is impacting comedy, as comics are afraid to be funny nowadays, in case someone seeks offence.
The GMTV presenter from Citizen Khan says that show could not pass a woke test, his words...due to views expressed about Indians and immigrants by Indian actors.
Ricky Gervais knows.
Imagine a Dave Allen, Frank Carson or Billy Connolly style comic today...the woksters would melt.
Best comics ever, however.
Bring back humour and if something offends you, perhaps you are seeking to be offended or presuming others will be offended.
Just sayin.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Dave Allen recently had a 50 year anniversary special tribute programme - and hour and a half long - commissioned and put out by the BBC on BBC2.
“Marking 50 years since the seminal series Dave Allen at Large, a selection of favourite monologues from across the much-loved comedian’s career.”

“Frank Carson was one of Britain and Ireland's most-loved comedians. Dan Gordon explores the story of the Belfast funny man as he prepares to stage a one-man show on the comic's life.”
Last shown on a Sunday evening at 22:00 on BBC 2.
‘Video Nation: Being Sober - Frank Carson, My Story’
“It’s the way he tells them which has made Frank Carson the celebrity he is today.”
Currently available on iPlayer.
Billy Connolly? Take your pick:
‘Billy Connolly - Made in Scotland’
“Two-part series with intimate interviews with Billy Connolly, providing unique insight into the early influences and motivations that made this comedy legend the man he is today.” Currently available on iPlayer.
‘Billy Connolly: It’s Been A Pleasure’

‘Billy and Us’

Regardless of who is doing what, this trend of judging things to todays standards from bygone eras is quite tiresome. Things change, thank god, and we move forward. Plastering ridiculous headlines and virtuous labels on a time when people didn't know any better is bonkers.
Both sides need to grow up.
