It's ultimately a poor tournament consisting of one fairly poor performance, one excellent performance and one terrible performance.
Our inability to convert chances (we had a better xG than all three of our opponents in the games we played against them) was our major failing. I don't know what we do about that as we have a lack of quality forward options.
I was happy just to have something to look forward to last night, after the czech game i thought it would be over by friday so the england result gave us something to be happy about.
We lack quality and CB and CF though i think adams is decent, you are always going to struggle when you don't have quality in the spine of the team.
Ball retention and composure are our biggest failings, we are embarrassingly bad in those departments, pure hoofball and panic.
The amount of times it went back to marshall last night for a high punt up the park which 9/10 lost us possession was ridiculous. In comparison to croatia who retained possession by passing the ball out from the back, even if the receiver had opponents within a few yards of them.
Our mentality is "quick"
"quick get it up the park"
"quick get rid of it!"
until we resolve that and the obvious CB issue, we will struggle.
On the England game, it was more the performance than the result that was celebrated (by most). I think we finally played the way we wanted them to play and we looked like a very good team that knew how to play football.
The frustration with last night was we reverted to type and played the kind of football that none of us want to see. Last night was incredibly deflating.
Good result against England, Croatia were always going to beat you as they are a good side.
Losing to the Czech Republic was your big let down.
i admire armstrongs ability to break up attacks, it's just a shame he was doing it for croatia and not us.
biggest culprits last night was him and dykes imo.
Big McKenna, one of our highest rated CB's, had a booking before getting a single touch of the ball

That suggests your players raised their game against England, because simply it's against 'the enemy'.
If they can play like they did consistently then they would have fared better. It's the consistency you lack as much as anything else.Just look at Wales, they are a smaller nation than Scotland and yet they consistently play at a very high level.
Aberdeen wanting 10 million for him was some buzz
he typifies what Scotland views as a centre half, and in modern day football thats just not good enough.

He's a footballer not fvcking weight lifter, how about skill, composure, talent
i've said it before and i think it still stands, the moment a CB in scotland can defend and pass a ball, he is pushed forward into a CDM role.

To be fair it is a derby against our nearest neighbours.
The rivalry might be one day, but if England had played the game as a derby they probably would have won.
What Wales have that we don't is two quality forward thinking players in Ramsay and particularly Bale. If we had those two we'd be getting out of groups too.
We're playing hoofball and it won't work against any savvy team or manager.
We got away with it against England to an extent because southgate is not a savvy manager.
He gets away with it in general because he has fast players up front who can put the ball in the net.
Souness was bang on with his comments about the style of football. Media morons like mccoist don't help with the 'I cannot believe that he didnt put that straight into the box to be perfectly frank with you Joe/Clive'
I still don't know anyone that called them 'legends' after the England game.
Our goalkeeper was dropped to the bench by Derby , 2 of our centre halfs are not centre halfs, we have no out and out creative midfielder, a dearth of wide players, and our main 2 centre forwards are neither Scottish nor known for being prolific goalscorers.
You can sprinkle the squad with as much glitter as you want, but the reality is that it'll still mainly land on jobbies.
I'm not a Stevie Clarke fan, but his main task was to get us to the finals of a tournament. He did that. His job now is to build on that, get us to another one and make us more competitive than we have been.

Wales have a goalkeeper that hasn't played a first team club game for about 4 years. They have a midfielder in Joe Morrell who has only 7 appearances for his Championship side Luton last season.Players like Keiffer Moore,Joe Allen and Connor Roberts are Championship players but they are regulars for Wales.
Wales have a pool of about 8-10 players that are playing in the top leagues, the rest are championship and Division 1 standard

We talk about lack of quality in the final third, and that's definitely an issue. But then the Manager chose to go with a certain type of striker and a certain way of playing that isn't necessarily conjucive to goals.
Going with the long ball up to Dykes and having a busy player round about gets you loads of effort but as we saw not a lot of quality. He had other options he could have went with but over the 3 games the style remained one dimensional. Same tactics, same outcomes.
Coleman I tend to agree. It's what frustrates me about the narrative that we should be proud of Scotland. We're not punching above our weight by being there.
Magnum Souness was bang on and some of the media narrative locally through this tournament has been embarrassing. When you look at the stick old firm Managers get - particularly foreign ones - for any points dropped the fact the same pundits and media outlets will hear no word of criticism for Clarke is very telling.
You listen to Souness talk about football all day.

He played a system to suit the players we have. I'd love us to play a different way, but we lack real creativity to allow us to do so on a regular basis at the top level of the game.
I don't think Clarke is a fantastic manager - I think he's fairly limited and probably more suited to being an assistant manager rather than the main man. I think he did a decent job to get us to the finals, but he has real shortcomings.
Our main problem though is that we can bring in a more progressive manager - he's still working with a limited squad lacking in technical ability.

Lets be honest - we werent great in the play offs and the penalty shoot outs could easily have gone the other way.
It is an undeniable fact we did well to get to the finals.
But it is also true we failed to win both play offs and relied on the lottery of penalty kicks to get us through.
I was secretly hoping Clarke would get the Celtic job because going into games as the favourite and playing to win every week is certainly not what he is known for
We didn't play badly against the Czechs, we just couldn't take our chances and they scored a mad goal that the boy would struggle to do again.
We were good against England, again we failed to take the chances we created but never looked like losing
Last night we were poor for most of the game, like the other 2 games we started well then decided to sit off Croatia and let them dictate the game, at the end of the day Croatia are ranked what 8th in the world or something it's no surprise we're being outplayed by them
