I live in the midlands so have to pick and choose my games. Off the top of my head the ones I've been to alone are:

Stoke 0 Spurs 4 (2016, sat with Stoke fans)
Leicester 1 Spurs 1 (2015, sat with Leicester fans)
Spurs 3 Real Madrid 1
Spurs 3 Dortmund 1
Spurs 0 Leverkusen 1
Countless WBA v Spurs games at the Hawthorns

Loved every single one - can get there as early as you like, soak up the atmosphere. It's brilliant.

Similar thoughts when I’ve done it but it’s only been the odd game so not sure if it would feel like that week in week out.

At least your mate has the right idea !

I had a season ticket for years and went alone and it didn't bother me. You get to know people in the pubs and were you sit in the ground

You get used to it.

I've gone to quite a lot of games with a mate and his dad but I've been travelling to quite a few games by myself since I was 19 when I got my first season ticket and bear in mind I live in Northern Ireland.

I've travelled by myself a few times to Manchester via coach and ferry to Cairnryan and it was exhausting.

Generally I don't mind it though.

If you want to go to the game alone, go to the game.

Just make sure you get Sad Act No1 on the back of your shirt.

But seriously just go alone, the anxiety only exists in your own head.

It’s not really from an anxiety perspective, just whether it would eventually get a bit boring. Although the other lad that used to come with us never shut up during the game, so being alone is much preferable to that.

He’s moving to East Dulwich. Maybe he’ll get to the odd Dulwich Hamlet game.

I used to go to away games quite often on my own, and to OT until I get league match ticket books for me and my future wife. Then made friends with two lads who sat in front of us.
I quite liked the aways on my own, went when I wanted etc. Homes were fine, only lived 30 minutes away by car, and an hour back.

As a young adult I wouldn't have considered going out on my own. The older I get the more I love being alone. Maybe the context of having a family and people reporting to me at work plays into it: not having the me-time I had before I had responsibilities. When I go on a business trip I really enjoy going for a meal on my own, when I'd have felt quite uncomfortable doing so as a 20 year-old. So yeah, I'd be fine going to matches unaccompanied. Only the kids wouldn't forgive me for leaving them behind.

I quite enjoy it, but I'm someone who quite likes the odd bit of alone time I get as other aspects of my life don't really allow for it.

So my advice to you Mike would be to stay the hell away from Old Trafford, you fūcking jinx.

Going on your own is fine, there are thousands of people there and do you really want to talk to someone during the game. Nothing stopping you chatting on the hands free/mobile etc if you are a bit lonely travelling to the match.

I was always with mates/family at home games but nearly always on my own for away games. My absolute favourite games I’ve seen live are away games.

I actually don't have a bad record at OT, certainly not like my match thread hoodoo.

I think I went 8 games in a row during the Moyes era without seeing us win, but I would imagine I wasn't the only one that year

Agree with you and RR though regarding a bit of time alone.

I used to regularly go to the cinema on my own when I was relocating through work and living away from home during the week. There is a cinema near me that did tickets for £3 on Monday nights and weekend mornings. So I used to go on the Monday night.

Then one weekend I could travel home, so I went in the morning. The film they were showing was Finding Dory. I was the only adult in the cinema who wasn't accompanying children. I got a lot of odd looks as I squeezed down the aisle, past a load of families and kids parties to a seat at the end. Pretty awkward.

I usually find somebody to take my dads ticket if he can’t make it, however there are a few around me who go alone when their fellow holders can’t make it.

Good bunch round me to be fair, one bloke is actually called Paul Scholes.

OP

I often go to games alone, as my best mates whom I used to go to back in the day, have either passed on or no longer go. I do however meet up with relatives once in the ground, although we rarely sit together, as they are mostly season ticket holders.

Because I purchase my ticket on a match by match basis, I usually try to get tickets in the same area, but am never in the same row. But I find meeting up with different supporters every home match, is all part of the experience.

When Spurs were at Wembley, I usually went with my brother-in-law, so obviously we sat together at those games.
