Malian is South African batsmen so maybe help England team for now
Yesterday it was perfect, 60 runs from 130 balls and just the one tough chance for Rohit.
This morning it was 8 runs from 65 balls, 3 from his last 54 and 0 from his last 29. He must have thought to himself that if he gets through the morning then there's a century out there for him this afternoon.
Both openers have done a great job although both will be disappointed not to have kicked on to get a big score. The 2 wickets mean it's an even session but given the overall context of the game, India need to win a few sessions, 2 more even sessions will still put us way ahead.

Joe Root has only come in with 150 on the board once since 2016. That was against Ireland in the second innings at Lord's in 2019.
thats mental
Mental but unsurprising unfortunately. It'd be interesting to know how many times he's actually come out with more than 50 on the board as even that seems beyond our top 3 most of the time.
148 runs ahead with only 2 wickets down. This must be one of the most ahead we've ever been with the seconds new ball due.
300 minimum lead on the cards
At the rate these two are going, we could be 250 ahead at tea.
Brilliant from Root He's spent so much of his career coming out to bat with England in a pickle that he must be absolutely loving batting with the pressure off.
What an utterly fabulous player Joe Root is. So good to see him back on song. It makes you wonder how he'd have been compared to Kohli/Smith/Williamson if he'd been batting in a decent side his whole career.
50 for Malan. A nice situation for him to make his comeback in but well done to him.
Great batting from this pair.
Piling on the misery for Choosh, love it.
A lead of 300+ would be adequate
Good innings from Malan and Root so far, hope both make a century.

Only halfway through day 2, no point batting twice if we can help it. The primary goal should just be to bat, bat and bat some more. Get some runs under our batsmen's belts, really wear the opposition out, carry on as long into tomorrow as we can manage.
Hope we bat until tomorrow evening. With three test matches in a row that would be brutal on their seamers.

Yeah England should aim to tire out the Indian pace bowlers knowing there is still 2 more tests after this. Get a 400 lead should be the target.
