Very much prefer the England limited overs side.
This test team lacks diversity
Basically Joe Root's mates in the team
We're so shiite that even me spouting we need a wicket every 5 minutes won't help.
But i'll try it anyway.
Need a wicket.
I can't really remember a time when the test side has just been so full of dubious characters.
Burns - I have an innate bias to him as Surrey skip, but the little social media run-in with the ladies' team was pretty ugly.
Sibley - just seems a bit of a stubborn prat who refuses to modify his game.
Crawley - seems like a cocky prat who, again, refuses to modfiy his game.
Root - OK, but a flimsy captain and hasn't hit his potential.
Bairstow - less said the better.
Lawrence - seems OK but flatters to deceive.
Buttler - I like the guy well enough but his dips in form are absolutely crazy because we place too much pressure on him in all formats.
Curran - not a test bowler or no.8.
Robinson - the racist tweets are obviously a black mark but I'm sure he won't do that again...
Broad - always been a bit of a prat and wastes reviews but at least he's good.
Anderson - can't dislike him, obviously.
Saqib should be in the team, he's better than Robinson.
Moeen has a decent record v India in tests, usually with the ball. Should also be considered.
Hameed has worked hard in county cricket, deserves a chance ahead of Sibley.

Interesting thoughts, what happened with Burns?
Jimmy is obviously a legend and listening he's grown on me a lot due to listening to the podcast he's on with Greg James and Felix White, just seems like a really nice guy albeit a bit shy which is why he can seem a bit of a priiiick.
You're not wrong about the rest though. Mark Wood is a really likeable guy so hopefully we'll see the return of him this series. Also carrying on through all the injury problems he's had shows a huge amount of belief. Jack Leach is another and it's a shame he can't get in the side either. These are guys you can really get behind because they have some humility in their character and don't come across as stubborn and arrogant.

Robinson did have a good start to his test career and he's been exceptional on the county circuit for the last 5 years. He's better in the longer format although Mahmood is an exceptional talent and should be considered for squads as a proper quick along with Wood, Stone and Archer.
Moeen would have been a backwards step, like Bairstow has been. Mo has been a great servant for English cricket and still has a place in the T20 and ODI sides but not in the longer form for me. His batting has gone to pot and his bowling is respectable but I think Leach is the better option.
Hameed, yep, I think he should have played this game and I'd be amazed if he's not called upon at some point.

Helps that they are a great team unlike their test counterparts who are a shadow of better sides before them. Would this team fair much better with Archer, Mahmood, Mo, Rashid, Jordan et al in it? The batting would still be an abomination.
The England top 6 all play the same way. back in the crease and hardly come forward.. The first press should be forward then across the crease.. They go back and across..Thats why they often nick off to wider balls. if you were coming forward you can leave the wider deliveries. And I agree with Amanda they never change and refuse too..
Agree with all of that TCM (sorry, using your old moniker because EDR(T) is a bit of a faff)
The Burns thing was a bit of a storm in a teacup, but he did come across as a bit of a stroppy kid.

Apart from the Root that should say^^
Thats the Guardian so wont read it.
Yeah it's mainly the batting which is the concern but the reliance on Anderson/Broad is also obvious. Don't think the current backup bowlers are good enough. Lack a front line spinner too.
The top 3 are not good enough with the bat. Bairstow in the test side is stupid. Lawrence looks okay and Buttler is hit and miss.
India have got away with a lot this morning to be fair..

Better?
No real balance to the test team whereas India look pretty complete. They should win this 5 match series you'd think
It'd be a shocking performance if India don't win. They're simply a far better side than us at the minute.
What a moron, its true your a failure Burns. Live with the facts. Either improve or shut up
Straus is such a pathetic commentator, makes me cringe
Beyond pathetic this. Facking pathetic.
Its amazing how the Indians and Nz players dont play at balls that are close to the bat. The England players would have nicked off to most of these deliveries this morning and in the case of Crawley he will just dab the ball for slip catching like he did against NZ and I still stand by my opinion it was one of the worse shots to get out ive ever seen.
England batsman have strange techniques, especially the top 3.
India and NZ batsman far more conventional
Anderson and Broad are now past their best, if they are going to be our opening bowlers in the Ashes, we are in for a very painful series.
Butler is not a Test match batsman and never has been, Bairstow should be the Test wicket keeper as he is the better Test player.
Sibley, Crawley and Lawrence are also not good enough at Test level.
Harry Brook should be given a chance, that lad can really bat.
We will get our aris rayped in the Ashes looking at what is available.

When England lose be the same rhetoric,no need to panic. They will pick the same 11 for Lords. or Maybe wood for Curran . all the failures will get another chance..
As ever they will call up a batsman from a county team and still wont pick him.. thats how it works
Broad and Anderson aren't pass their best..From the first moment last even when England came into bowl there was no up and at em. Because it was lets see if we can contain the scoring ratio and get the game further in th match.. If we had a bigger score be more scoreboard pressure.theres not a lot any bowling team can do when your batsmen only get 183.
