I hope this isn't becoming a contest between who the dumbest are? Americans win hands down

Been pretty disgusted by the ignorant, arrogant attitude i have seen the last few years here, it really is far worse than i ever expected, so much so i am ready to leave and i never believed i would say that a few years ago.

I saw this interesting thing on TikTok yesterday. This guy was asked what he thought was the biggest threat to US security. He said that it wasn’t this pandemic. It was the next one. He said that a foreign power could manufacture one and release it in the US because they’ve seen just how selfish 50% of the US population are and how it would be so easy to divide and conquer the US based on how the past 18 months have been.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Yep and it isn't wrong. No doubt in my mind the US will eat itself. It would be funny if it wasn't so dangerous.

sad thing is it would destroy the world if the US imploded

global markets, all these global brands, all those defense bases which somewhat contain the other radical nations expansion and plans.

It would be a shame, the US has a lot to offer. Best thing the US could do would be to rip up the constitution for a start and rewrite it to fit the 21st century.

Also the fact a nation that considers itself a pioneer uses religion as a base of half its political strategy is farcical.

The first lesson should be ‘amendments are made to be amended’.

Has the US even been hit properly by the Delta yet? Cos if not, things are going to change rapidly when it does get there.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

It is just starting to take a foothold now. Those with the two dose jabs should be OK. Those with the single dose maybe not so much. Those unvaccinated are probably in trouble.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Wait - do you mean those that have only had one jab of a two jab vaccine or are you claiming the j&j single dose is not effective? If the latter what is your source?

US citizens have no real concept of what a lockdown entails.

Here in Spain, nobody but nobody left their house for over sixteen weeks. Visits to supermarkets and pharmacies only. Guardia Civil officers checking every car. You had to retain your receipt for it to be time and date checked by the same officers on the way home (some initially tried just carrying bread and bottled water in the back to fool them.)

Anyone caught outside without good reason was fined

Times for outdoor exercise was divided up by age. For example, OAPs allowed out between 8am and 10am.

Compulsory masks, hand gel and occupant limits in all establishments with security personnel on hand to monitor and check all entrants.

Mandatory cleaning of shopping carts, baskets.

Curfew from 10pm to 6am. No exceptions.

No mixing from different households.

Sound like a US lockdown? Gimme a break..
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Hmm sounds a lot like Santa Clara county from July - October and then again November to April.

non-essential retail closed.

limited capacity in grocery stores, early opening solely for 'at risk'. you were handed a trolley or basket that had been cleaned by the person managing the door.

no inter household mixing or fines

take away only from restaurants

compulsory masks everywhere (still in place today in a variety of settings)

curfew 10-6am

granted, we were one of the few places in the US that actually did a proper lockdown.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
here in NYC area we had all that.

you accuse me of making assumptions?! oh my days

"You can bet that the vast majority of those who have got the jab, one or two doses are the Florida Dems."

you just made this massive assumption that I proved false with statistics, then you claim I "misread the data"? Laughable
----------------------------------------------------------------------

You didn’t prove it false with statistics. You misread what the statistics mean.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Explain the statistics then. But I am sure you won't

Uh yes they are.

I've heard some arguments for the anti-vaxxers here in one of golf outings a couple weeks ago. An younger gentleman was against it because and I quote "it clearly doesn't work if people are still getting COVID. I'd wait and see if there's an improvement on this before taking it."

Reason this was brought up was because I played near the medical center in Houston and he was a nurse in one of the hospitals. Would've thought they required vaccines but I dunno. There was a whole debate on on that too.

Was this the thread with the questions about what Florida was getting right compared to other states? Well that idea has gone to shat, absolute chaos in Florida right now, hospitals bursting at the seams. DeSantis needs removing asap, the guy is a disgrace.

I think it was another thread, where me and another poster noted that they let it rip the 'first wave' and had a smaller second wave as expected (not thanks to DeSantis) if you look at Spanish flu examples of cities who did the same thing. They also cooked the numbers, so that the overall numbers seemed low (but the excess death ones are way up).
With letting the delta variant running rampant you will get the same scenario all over again: this wave will be horrible, but the next one relatively calm so that he or the next guy can claim credits. But, cooking the numbers will be a bit harder this time due to reality kicking in....
