The Athletic are reporting that PSG have made contact with PSG regarding a possible move either this summer or next

Where are they moving?

Hakimi Ramos Marquinhos Hernandez
Wijnaldum Veratti Pogba

M/ Pochettino

Fair play if he goes, he gave us 5 seasons and we couldn’t match his ambition. Deffo rather lose him for a fee than for free.

true, though only a club like us could have a player on their books, lose him for nothing (or £800k), but him back for £89m, then let him go for less than we paid for fred.

Have we really been better at transfers this summer?

Sancho was always happening, as we've been after him for a year.

We got lucky with Varane—one year left on his contract, and supposedly only wanted to join Utd.

Still to early to tell if we've improved at this, I think.

Would anyone be happy if we asked Gueye to be part of a deal with PSG? Really good DM and knows the PL

I don't know about Pogba. There's a lot of variables.

- Does he want to move to PSG? We can assume he's open to a 'new challenge' but it's not a given that playing in the French league is one he's massively drawn to. Gossip at least has suggested that Real and Juve are bigger draws for the player himself. Both of those clubs are more likely to want him next season for free, and we may well find that we can't sell him this summer even if we want to.
- Is there a chance that Pogba stays without a contract and signs a new one with us in 2022 when he has even more leverage? It increasingly looks like the PL is the place to be, and with our current investment and trajectory, United might seem like a good place to be. Overall, I have a sense that Pogba has been quite fickle since joining us: hardly a model of loyalty, but ready to extend when doing so looks better than the other options. It's not out of the question that he makes the same calculation once again.
- Will we sign a DM if Pogba stays? This would potentially get more from him as well as more from the team. Could have implications on both his thinking and the club's calculations. There's a related question about our rumoured change of formation.
- If he left, would we be better off with a replacement (say e.g. Saul) who is probably not as talented but a better tactical fit in the current double pivot? If he left, would we require two midfielders (one to replace Pogba himself, one to improve on McFred)?

It's all too much for my sub-galaxy brain to compute but will be really interesting to watch.

I wonder if Poch will mix up the style if Pogba signs and Wijnaldum is starting most games.

They’ll have gone from something like:

Herrera/Gueye Paredes/Danilo Verratti/Rafinha

…using 4-3-3 and 4-2-3-1 from week to week, to a squad that’ll look much more comfortable playing with a three man midfield at a less intense pace.

Given that they’ve already re-signed Danilo, surely it’ll mean that two of Rafinha (must be off), Herrera, Gueye and maybe Paredes will be on the way out.

The club still had to persuade Varane to join and from what I’ve read we’re actually paying him less (not including image rights) than Real offered, so United deserve some credit. Will be great if we can get some unknown gems that turn out to be great but for now I think we have to be very pleased with the 2 signings.

I’m not sure La Liga is all that glamorous these days and with the current Real and Barca situations aren’t the selling point they once were. PSG are arguably a more glamorous club right now, especially for a home country hero.

I also think it’s fair to say PSG are more likely to win a CL sometimes soon than Real or Barca and I’m sure that’s what his main ambition is right now - to be competing for the biggest prize.

I don' think he has matched our ambition either to be fair.

If PSG do want Pogba then I'd be trying to get Veratti as part of the deal.

Gueye would be the obvious option of the PSG midfielders.

I don’t think they’ll let go of Paredes yet.

The other big factor is Fat Boy, who will no doubt want him to go for free. Then he will probably encourage him to go to the club offering the highest signing on fee

I'd add that I don't think either Real or Barca can/would pay what he will want in wages. PSG looks quite likely at the moment. Maybe Juve too.

Fabrizio Romano has said United's priority now is to understand what Pogba wants to do so hopefully we should get a definitive answer very soon.

I'm just sick of this situation and want it to be over quick.

I thought we should've gone for Gueye when he was at Everton but not now. Paredes would be the midfielder to get from PSG.

Let's hope so. If he does stay let's hope we have a plan for him. Can't see him playing on the left of the front three that often.

Real Madrid's financial situation isn't as catastrophic as Barcelona's, and they seem to be going all out to buy Mbappe. I read that the new stadium revenue is expected to generate something like an extra €150m a year, so it could be with some smart dealing and management by next summer they're a club that can make quite an appealing pitch to a player in terms of sporting project and prospects. Then there's the draw of playing in La Liga, being part of El Clasico folklore (at a time when Barcelona are suffering), a decent chance of winning the title, and wearing that famous white shirt.

Obviously, if Pogba is motivated by CL more than anything, PSG is the best bet. On the other hand, being under-tested in the French league seems to leave them continually struggling to raise their game in the CL, so it's not a sure bet. And without the CL, playing at PSG means being in the Europe's fourth best league. Paris is his home town, though he grew up in a family that supported OM.

Hopefully not because I think it's just a waste of an attacking position Pogba playing there.

If he's not going to be a first choice central midfielder in either a two or a three, we need to let him go.

It's as simple as that.

This is the problem with this place. You can't analyse things rationally. You have to go along with the herd and their emotive thinking, or get called miserable and worse.
