City won it last year without a regular striker, they have 2 now
----------------------------------------------------------------------
No fans in stadiums

City having games cancelled to suit them

Covid fixtures

Won't be possible this year. Also, what strikers do you refer to?? Jesus isn't a 9 and Torres is a winger...
----------------------------------------------------------------------
No fans was probably why City had their worst home record for a decade and United had their best away record ever.

Ice partnership developing between Torres an Jesus, I could see us breaking the 100 goal barrier again

I said before season start I thought Torres would have a breakthrough year, crazy talent.

I have been tearing into Liverpool for their lack of depth upfront, but at least they have 3 forwards.

You have 2. What happens if Jesus or Torres get's injured? Who would be your 9??

Shocking lack of depth.

So OP, a near 37 yr old Ronaldo isn't declining but Liverpool front 3 are? 😅

City won the league at a canter. Even if u did make up the gap in last year's table, they would just go into 2nd or 3rd gear. United still miles off tbh. United didn't beat wolves because of Varane. Wolves lost to united cos they couldn't finish their dinner.

I went to watch FCB play at Valencia in January 2020. Torres played on the right wing and tore it up. He's a class player. I wonder perhaps though if Pep will spoil him and try to turn him into a 9 when he's actually a winger.

Yes Pep has an awful record for making players worse, good point.

He does if you look into it properly:

Ibrahimovic
Fabregas
Robben
Henry
Nolito
Yaya Toure

You've deleted my comment because of what exactly? I only asked a question.

I'll take that as a yes then.

Having games cancelled was definitely to City’s advantage.

Most teams would benefit from being forced to play 5 games in 13 days

Salah is their exception but he is leaving, won't sign a new deal and all that.

Ronaldo is better than their front 3 too.

Nothing I’ve seen suggests Sancho is worth an extra 5 points for us.

You can't judge him after some cameo appearances when he isn't fit.

It's like saying when Ronaldo made his debut against Bolton you couldn't see him winning all those Ballon D'or awards etc.

Sancho will be fearsome for defenders just watch. The guy is world class.

His mate a Villa told him after seeing an encrypted message saying ‘Salah’s leaving’ in Rashford’s book.

He is. He won't sign a new deal with them and has previously said he wants to play in Spain.

Culer, I think there's a flaw - or at least an unexplained point - in your argument.

Is this a net points gain net?

I mean, these new signings have to replace someone in the XI, so you'd need to subtract the number of points those players were worth in order to find United's net gain.

It is net. They'd replace:

Lindelof who used to cost us points lol

James who wasn't good enough

Martial who didn't win us any points last year

I won't debate Lindelof, but James' and Martial's appearances were limited though. There's a finite number places on the team and minutes to share out over the course of the season.

Do you expect Sancho and Cristiano to achieve those points gains in the same number of minutes Martial and James had last season?

You must also factor into account the fact that Rashford wasn't fit last year either.

What about AWB, there’s a good chance he could be in prison for the 2nd half of the season

Maybe if he's padded up with Mendy, he can teach that clown how to actually defend.

All 4 teams are capable of winning it, all clearly have squads with the ability to put wins together but City and Liverpool are the most recent to actually do it. We know for a fact they can and I don't see reasons to discount either of them. Their recent success edges them. We've no idea what will happen with this Chelsea or United team, both have to prove they can do it yet.

We also have no idea what will happen over the season. Chelsea and spurs were both pretty hyped up last season at certain points as well and a fair few were readily writing City off after the start they had.

It only takes a bad December to put one of those teams a bit too far behind the leading pack. Taking points off each other could also prove far more valuable than some other years. I still have City as my favourites and I think Liverpool are being written off a bit too quickly.

Rashford played all year with an injury so he probably cost us points at times due to his fitness.

Also Cavani missed so many games due to signing late, then being banned and injury.

The depth on paper of Liverpool's squad (particularly in attack) seems worse than the other sides, but looking elsewhere I don't really think it's that much worse than most of the other sides.

For instance, Gomez and Matip, assuming both wouldn't start over the season, are both decent options and I'd certainly trust them over United's and City's back up CB's for instance. In midfield, the likes of Keita, Jones, Ox etc are not bad options either. Maybe not as strong as City's or Chelsea's on paper, but certainly good enough when given the opportunity and when they aren't plagued by injury. Going forward there is a pretty sizeable drop off, but even a forward line of Jota, Firmino and Elliot I reckon would still do enough to beat many sides in the league.

As much as I agree the squad seems a lot thinner on paper than the others, it's still not "as bad" as what people would assume at first glance.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Surely Klopp sees Elliot as a CM though? I thought you'd use

Jota
Firmino
Minamino

With Origi
----------------------------------------------------------------------
He might do, but I've seen enough of Origi to know that using Elliot in the attacking trio would be a better shout at this point, I'd even argue the same with Minamino. Whilst I think Minamino still has something to prove, I'd still rather Elliot at this point.
