Fair enough. Maybe they could apply the pre-safety-car intervals to their finishing times, I dunno. So if car X is 10.5 seconds ahead of car Y when the safety car comes out, then car Y would need to beat X by 10.6 seconds to finish ahead of them in the final result.
I understand that would be artificial but it doesn't seem any less artificial to me than giving back 10 or more seconds that were fairly gained by a quicker driver. Whatever. Maybe F1 isn't for me
Never before has a race director taken the SC in before cars unlap themselves.
He may not have broken any rules, but to me it is grossly unfair and prejudices one (or more) participants.
Its like returning the ball to the opposition after theyve kicked it out for an injury etc.....its not a rule, no one is obliged to return the ball, and if you don't then (like Masi) you've followed the rules but its just not fair..
Masi was totally able to keep the SC out (also not breaking rules) and in fact in every other occasion he would have.
In the interests of fairness and sport integrity he made the wrong decision.

The Race Director arbitrarily going off-script from stated safety car procedures in a manner than massively rewards one team over another isn't sporting. The fact that he does this on the last lap of the last race in a manner that clearly decides the championship is worse and sours Verstappin's win. The only obvious reason is to ensure the race doesn't finish under the safety car, to make sure its "good tv", which has, in the 20 years I've watched F1, never ever been used to change a safety car procedure. Sometimes races finish under the safety car... Didn't seem to be a problem in Belgium where they ran 4 laps behind a safety car so they could legally be allowed to call it a "race" and not have to refund everyone that bought tickets... if the goal was to "make good TV", fine... state in the F1 rule book that the race director can change procedures for "maintaining the F1 spectacle" and make sure its done in an equitable manner for all teams... red flag the race, everyone gets new tires and a standing start 3 lap sprint to the end. Would have been amazing TV without picking winners and losers. Instead, Masi hits the CHAOS button at his desk and now we see the best championship fight in a decades get decided in courts. He should be fired.

I do find it somewhat ironic, that over the course of the entire season, all that every team does, is look for loopholes in the technical regulations, which will allow them to change things or put/remove things from their cars, to give them and their drivers an advantage over the rest of the field.
From the entire rear wing flexing under stress, to DRS somewhat being deployed thanks to movement in the rear wing flaps, and new checks coming in etc....both Mercedes and Red Bull have been looking for loopholes in those rules and have tried to exploit them as much as they can.
The last race comes...and with the race director wanting to ensure the championship is decided on the track....what does he do......he uses a loophole in the rules, to just let them race

To be fair, Hamilton should have been disqualified from the Championship after Silverstone, but was given a 5 second penalty in the name of "let them race".
Can't have it both ways.

Oh ffs, still going on about Silverstone, despite the majority of ex and current pro drivers saying ity was s racing incident.
And even if it was Hamiltons fault Monzo atoned for it, so it's a feckinnon issue.

Bottas (accidentally) took out Verstappen in the start of another race.
Verstappen deserves the title. Rightly so.
No one can deny that LH was robbed. I get everyone has an allegiance and will stick to that no matter what, but people should try and look at this without allegiance.
Another question I wonder is, F1 has brought in alot of new fans this season. I wonder if those fans will stay for next season after that ending. That's all F1 will care about IMO.
Not ashamed to admit that I used to follow F1 years ago, stopped but then restarted this season.
Does what happened yesterday make me think about dropping it again? What will others do? My guy feel is that F1 have gained from this season and the end of the last race. F1 is talked about all over the place.
