It's worth noting they don't have all the rights so they have to fill in areas with their own interpretations.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeah but adding Balrogs?!? They weren't about in the second age and it's a pretty MAJOR event that one is uncovered in the third age...
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Based on what I have read and been told, they are moving things around in terms of time periods, to suit the show.
This is a problem that people have to accept, if they choose to watch the show. The people in charge of the show have basically said, "lets stick to the lore where we can, to keep the hardcores happy but let's also add in things that will attract the casuals. A Balrog always looks cool"

Yeah.. it looks cool (even when not book accurate) but the discovery of the one in Moria at the start of the third age lays a lot of foundations for the events of the third age..
Again I guess it's based on where you come down on the lore etc, but this does break a lot of the world's history.
My knowledge on the lore is limited, so from a viewers perspective, I want things to look good and make sense for me. But I prefer when shows and movies stay as loyal to the source as possible.
I enjoyed it but there were quite a few eye rolling moments like the troll fight and the swimming scene, but the original characters seem decent.
My main gripe at the moment is the portrayal of the elves. They did a fantastic job in the original trilogy of making Legolas stand out and feel mystical with his mannerisms and character design, but it doesn't feel that way at all with the majority of the elves at the moment. They just feel like humans with pointy ears.
Also the actress for Galadriel doesn't seem all that, but it is early days so hopefully she improves.
The Galadriel killing the snow troll sequence was disappointing. It was like they had to show how good she was but it was done in a condescending manner. The other elves were made to look like inferior beings.
Episode 3 was the best one so far. The Numenor story is interesting and I loved the orcs stuff.

Numenor looked amazing when the boat sailed in. They’ve really smashed the visuals out of the park, can’t think if any feature films that look this good, save the original Lotr trilogy itself.
I hope they end the harfoot story, as I find it dull and a distraction from some of the other more interesting characters and stories.
I actually quite liked the harfoot story until episode 3.
Why show us they're this community that value each other, but then not help an injured guy move his cart knowing full well anyone who gets left behind will die
Episode 3 overall was a lot better than the first 2 though.

Started watching it today. Managed 5 minutes before I became annoyed by second age elves being outfought by Orcs.
Episode 4 was pretty good. Elrond and Durins interactions are currently the high point of the series and the harfoots are the lows. Fortunately, they didn't feature in episode 4.

yep, was a problem i had with pj lotr aswell(as much as i love them) sauron needs massive hordes for a reason
Really enjoying the show to be honest.
Durin and his wife were brilliant.
Even enjoying the Harfoots.
Yeah I think its decent, and it will get even better. It’s building. I’ve loved seeing places like Moria in its prime (that section of the first movie was absolutely brilliant), and numenor, etc
I need to watch episode 5 tonight.
Reckon it’s going to pick up the pace dramatically from ep 6..,
Episode 5 was a decent build up episode and yes it seems episode 6 is when the final climax begins.
Just finished episode 5.
This Isildur fella seems like a nice lad wonder what will happen to him
I wonder if the battles will live up to the standards set by the movies.
Still not really sure if I like it or not.
Some parts are brilliant, love all the Elrond, Durin and family scenes, and quite interested in the watchtower stuff, but it also feels like not all that much is happening per episode and I'm still struggling to warm to Galadriel.
Hope it doesn't become another Walking Dead where nothing happens for 80% of the season before it goes mental in the final episodes.
My favourite bits:
Elrond/Durin interactions
Elves/Dwarves storyline and dynamics
The visuals
Adar/Orcs interactions and dynamics
My least favourite bits:
Harfoots storyline
Galadriel
Theo
It's a 6.5/10 show thus far but it needs to pick up to keep my attention because the slow build has felt really slow.
For me the format has to be slow. It’s a series and the length and breadth of the lore demands a slow pace. The only thing I ask is that it demand my attention and intrigue - and that it has.

I'm finally caught up so revisiting the thread..
Yeah, the size of the elf army at helm's deep could have probably held the keep by itself...
