I've enjoyed the show for what it is but there are large parts of it that I have had to tolerate and endure, in the hopes that a payoff is provided. At least things seem to be picking up, with the reveal at the end of the latest episode.
Halbrand as Sauron? Interesting. I suppose he is the King of the Southlands which has now become Mordor.
I've had it in my head that the "mysterious stranger" with the harfoots is Sauron just to give their story more meaning. Although it seems more likely that he will be Gandalf, I just thought it might explain their scenes as otherwise they feel quite pointless
The harfoots story is so boring to me but I do think the wizard might be Gandalf. It would be a good way for the show to bring in a notable character for season 2.

Thankfully I'm not familiar with Tolkiens work outside of the main 6 movies, so I'm blissfully enjoying the show

gandalf shouldnt actually arrive until the 3rd age, but this show has just taken characters and done whatever the feck they want with them so its probably him
its quite funny that the tolkein estate had problems with pj's lotr, christopher tolkein must be rolling in his grave with all the changes they made after he passed away
Watched the final episode and I really want to like this show but the writing is just awful in too many places.
Things happen purely because the script needs them to happen, not because it actually makes sense in the story.
Fair play to anyone enjoying it but don't think I'll be watching season 2.

I’m a bit like that on house of dragons, I’m just so jaded with it, I just can’t be bothered with the bickering anymore. Find LOTR refreshing in contrast and have it enjoyed it a lot more.
Looks like Guv was spot on with Harlebrand

The amount of rolling he will be doing could provide us with infinite free electric...
If the meteor man is Gandalf (Which im sure will explain his love of hobbits etc) then im probably done with it. They could have created a great show without trampling the lore.

Today's episode was good, but also extremely irritating from a lore point of view.
Tolkien wrote a fair bit about numenoreans, and one of the big things was that they categorically did not use horses for war, they were too precious, and worshipped, you see that carried through to Gondor, (numenorean descendants)
It was pretty unique to the rohirrim (instead descended from the first age edain)
Also the Second age elf being bested in single combat by an orc was frustrating.
And mount Doom was made morgoth..
It was a good episode, but they really started to shiiiit on the lore with this one.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The horse thing is a trivial issue for me. I think it works for the purpose of the scene.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I can see why you could consider it trivial, But its part of what gives the works and world so much depth and interest, Unique races and kingdoms. A lot of it is based on historical fact, the only real kingdom in the history of the world to mount such massive horse based armies were the Mongols.. the inspiration for the rohirrim. Horses just arent an expendable resource, and never have been. right up to ww1 when they were used to draw cannons and many draught breeds came close to extinction.
Also you just couldn't have shipped that many horses on the numenoreon boats..
For me it has been a good show.. and im not anal about the lore, i can appreciate Isildur and Elendil being hundreds of years out of the timeline for the purpose of storytelling.
But taking events from the third age just seems utterly stupid! it fundamentally changes the events of the other storylines.. stories which could have been used to make future series.

I fundamentally think that's why I have enjoyed the show more than most.My knowledge of the lore outside of the 6 main movies is non existent, so even seeing an island city like Numenor looked excellent visually but I didn't have any attachment or appreciation for who they are or what their history is. Naturally, I've read up on a lot of the lore, thanks to youtube breakdown videos but it's all after the fact.
Rohirrim were base on Anglo-Saxons, not Mongols.
They adapt too using horses when they moove too Rohan as was lotsa open feelds n gentle hills perfecked 4 horses.

Their culture was largely, I agree, they even use elements of the Anglo Saxon language, and the vast majority of middle earth is based on the uk! But their fighting style is absoloutley not. Anglo-saxons exemplified my point about horses not being expendable, very few were ridden in to battle, the Anglo Saxon were very much an infantry.
Fighting primarily from horseback, with archery and throwing spears, light lances and small shields, the only other similar fighting force that could have been used for inspiration would be the Spanish Jinetes, which were a portion of the medieval Spanish army, rather than their way of life.
Not that I want to get sidetracked in to military through the ages, my larger point was that Tolkien went out of his way to talk about the numenoreans and the fact they didn't use horses in that way.
Underwhelming finale.
So Sauron/Halbrand wanted to marry Galadriel?

Think the Balrog might have done it for me. Or the introduction of what is clearly Sauroman even though that doesn't make much sense either.
