Villa lost at home to Arsenal so we are still ten points ahead of them. Mind the gap
MGW got the second for Sheffield Utd today who went 4th with a 2-0 win over Barnsley

A couple of years ago most people were in agreement with the team selection as the first 11 virtually picked itself. Some saw that as a feature of the consistency that got us into Europe and maybe it was. But as sure as eggs are eggs as soon as some of those 11 picked up injuries results were going to suffer. And we saw that with Raul, Jonny, Boly, Neto etc.,
Now we have more of a squad so there are choices to be made and of course people will disagree with what those choices will be. And maybe most will disagree with what Bruno chooses. I thought he was wrong to have Hoever and Marcal as wing backs recently and results suggested that wasn’t the best choice. Last night when Neves went off I think everyone I heard at the ground including me thought replacing him with Trincao was a mistake. 20 minutes later Trincao had made what should have been a match winning combination. So Bruno certainly got that one right.
We’ve now got choices in most positions and that’s much healthier than having 11 that pick themselves
----------------------------------------------------------------------
But one choice we didn't have last night due to our hopeless transfer work was a midfield option to consolidate our lead when we went down to ten men. It would have been the obvious move but we couldn't make it.
I have said before, if we start with all our three midfielders, then an injury or card leaves us having to change our tactics rather than just making a simple change.

Jesus wept. The correct option was to strengthen the midfield when we went down to ten. We couldn't do that because two of our three were already on the pitch and the other was sent off.

Yes we could. If we wanted to become more defensive and strengthen the midfield. The obvious option would have been to move Saiss into midfield and bring on Kilman.
I still want to know why Neves came off - anyone?

Oh yeah, moving a defender into midfield because we have done that often right?
Just face it, the fact we had no options to tighten up is lretty ridiculous.

Doesn't sound like he was badly injured, he was sat on the bench second half without any ice etc apparently.

He took a kick after the ball had gone close to the left touch line early on and was struggling from that time on. Carried on for a while but clearly feeling uncomfortable. Knee injury evidently
Cinci, it is not like Saiss hasn't played in midfield. and if you want a more defensive midfield. It makes perfect sense.
Amusing to review cinci’s comments on these match threads occasionally.
With Raul’s incident the initial comment was could be a yellow for that. Then others point out it wasn’t even a foul. Next comment - yeah ridiculous decision
Then later said wish we had gone for it rather than sitting on the lead. Today the view is the obvious thing would have been to have sat on the lead but we didn’t have the players to do it
Many of us disagree on opinions, cinci disagrees with himself

Cheers buddy at last I understand. I was hosting a quiz in a bar with the game on the tv without sound so I was a bit confused as to why he was subbed.
I don't know if the ref's decision to award Raul a second yellow was correct or not but what I do think is that Raul's challenge on the keeper was rash in the extreme. It resulted in both players being injured and the keeper having to be subbed.
Thinking back to Raul's other red in the game against City, again, even though he was on a yellow he made a silly and unnecessary decision to hold up play by preventing City from taking a free kick.
I sometimes wonder what is going on in these footballer's heads when they make these irrational decisions.

And this was my comment at 2-2 NOT 2-0 when the defensive change should have happened had we a squad.
So in summary, you made a bit of a t1t of yourself

How about this clever idea. A defensive change bringing a feckin midfielder on rather than rejigging half the side?
Who knew having only three midfielders was such a dumb idea.

Point being, once down to ten just about all managers will make a change to amke the side more rigid. Do you know what change we made? None. Why? Because we don't have viable options.

That is entirely up to Bruno, if he wants to stay attacking that is his choice. You were the one who said we had no options. I pointed out one.
