This is so indicative of the black or white, trial by Twitter mob. Chelsea aren't owned by Putin. Abramovich has ties with him, sure, but I doubt a man of his considerable wealth would actually want what is happening right now. Make no mistake, the oligarchs will be privately furious about all this. They won't have wanted war. It doesn't help them. If influential figures like themselves come out and publicly condemn Putin then they'll likely expect a couple of drops of Novichok in their atomisers. It's nuanced. Not every influential Russian is guilty. The PL and government had to make a stand against his ownership but to expect Chelsea fans to follow suit after all he's given them is just frankly absurd. He's done a lot for the club and he's not the one directly orchestrating this war. He just doesn't publicly condemn it largely to save his own life. Allow them the right to say thank you. It's possible to be grateful to Abramovich and still hate the war Putin is raging. They're two separate things.
I can only assume this is just cheap baiting from one rival club to another.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Pretty much this. Chelsea have broken no rules. The Prem knew who RA was when they let him buy the club and whilst it is right he is under sanctions, talk of taking trophies off them is laughable.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Totally right GTW14T.
it is ridiculous to demand any trophies should be declared null & void.
The competitions Chelsea have won so far have been won fairly and everyone needs to accept this and focus on the present.
Fans might now demand if certain players currently awaiting court appearances for alleged offences, then any games they played in and won or drawn, any points won should be retrospectively taken away and given to their opponents. Absolutely ludicrous to even suggest Chelsea should have any trophies taken away.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Sorry Genius, totally disagree. They were won with Abramovich's durty money stolen from the Russian people with the aid of Putin. I just don't get why everyone thinks Abramovich is squeaky clean, and without the laundered money, Chelsea would have won nothing.
Olympic athlete get disqualified for taking drugs, Armstrong was stripped of his titles for cheating, Rangers were relegated three divisions for doing the same, so I don't get why Chelsea would not be stripped of all their trophies for winning them with dirty laundered Russian money.
What’s the significance of the 65th minute ?
Remember also if they are not paid, they could be in a position to walk away and claim breach of contract. They could then negotiate vast signing on fees with other clubs.

A good sensible post at last. Some of the things I've been reading on here over the last couple of days is awful. Fans using the terrible situation in Ukraine as cheap point scoring over Chelsea is embarrassing. Why weren't they complaining about Roman before all this?!
I hate Chelsea as much as the next man but this is just getting silly now.
Even Sandy has started to sound like a Tory by stating he doesn't care if anyone loses their jobs as it's all their own fault apparently. Genuinely unbelievable.

Nobody thinks Abramovich is squeaky clean.
However, the athletes that lost their medals, Armstrong losing his titles - they all broke the rules set by the governing bodies. Chelsea didn't. The EPL allowed Abramovich to buy the club and play within their league. Chelsea won their trophies with the consent of their governing body. There's a massive difference.

Just because the EPL allowed it does not make it right. The Government have not taken over the running of the club out of the kindness of the hearts, they have taken it over because finally they have discovered something not right with how Abramovich came to buy the club, and have now decided enough is enough. I didn`t say I did not care if they lost their jobs, and never once said it is their fault, so stop making things up. The fault is squarely on the shoulders of Chelsea`s owners. I said they would not be the first to lose their jobs if a company went under, and I said there are plenty of jobs out there, so they would have no need to be unemployed. It happens, companies go bust, it is the way of the world.

When all this settles down I predict you will be crying more tears of despair just like 2012.
Roman may well end up suing the UK Government for their sanctions without proof of his involvement in the war on Ukraine.
As it is his time is up and guess what. He never got "bored with his toy" but it was forcefully taken off him.
Chelsea fans are against Putin's invasion of Ukraine and the total carnage he has inflicted.
You Sandy are more concerned that Chelsea FC an institution formed 117 years ago is destroyed than the Ukranians being safe. I'm calling you out on that based on your posts. You want them stripped of the titles they won with little knowledge of legal ramifications. You complain that £350 a month to house Ukranian refugees is not enough whilst other people take them on in the name of charity and human kindness. Try camping on another teams page as you are not welcome here with your outlook and lack of compassion by me and I'm sure many others. Fans are entitled to thank RA for his efforts for the club whilst criticising Putin. Guess what many Russian civilians don't agree with Putin but what can they do? The one's that protested early on were arrested. Do you know how things work ion Russia under this tyrant?
God help Ukraine.
I can see so many good reasons as to why so many Blue fans love Roman A , and use home and away matches to express strong passion. - Admirable! !
Are you suggesting that these public outcries which are only popular to a minor group of fans should be stopped?
That socially unpopular minority voices should be stopped and silenced?
Is this your contention?
It looks like you are advocating totalitarianism.
"Not doing themselves a favour"
"Shut up and keep quiet" gets you the best pat on the back government attention? No way....make your voices heard. Bravo you Blues wish I could have been there to support you all!

Oh I agree, he's a crook. But that's news. It's not discovered in the last 2 weeks or because Russia invaded Ukraine. It's been the case for decades.
They've not discovered something isn't right about the purchase of Chelsea or how the money was acquired - its common knowledge. What they've taken action on appears to be that Abramovich's steel companies are supplying the Russian army and therefore the war effort.
For that he's being sanctioned and most would say rightly so. But it's nothing to do with Chelsea.

Rangers were not relegated. They were liquidated. A new legal entity club that was formed was allowed accelerated progress into the lowest league despite not meeting the rules for admission and trampling over other clubs that would have liked admission and who did meet the criteria. The new club claimed they'd bought the old clubs history. Thems the facts.

These people, despite their wealth, are clearly aware the Putin holds the sword of Damocles over their heads. Once you go against Putin, you are forever looking after your shoulder as we have seen in the cases of Berezovsky, Litvinenko and Skripal.
It’s a lot different to criticising our government which anyone can do without fear. We can’t seriously expect these Russian to publicly come out against the Kremlin.
While this is all very commendable, and I agree that innocent working class people shouldn't be in the firing line, I would question how innocent people really are when they choose to go to work for an oligarch. It's not like he took over last week. As much as it's been normalised, we all know Abramovich is a shady guy sport washing (why don't we call it straight up laundering?) his Putin money.
I think there's some people here voicing concern to protect football as a whole here rather than for purely humanitarian reasons.
Of course the wider issue is, where to draw the line. Who we choose or who we are led to believe are the enemies of our society. And who you choose to work for. I mean, if you're working at Newcastle United do you look for another job now? Personally I'd be looking at an exit plan.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
A good sensible post at last.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Did you see that Russian conductor Valery Gergiev was dropped from conducting the Philharmonic orchestra.
Apparently he had ties to Putin, and was asked his opinion of the war and didn’t want to comment.
These people are stuck between a rock and a hard place, and this anti-Russian sentiment is so tribal and ridiculous.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Wait a minute, the same Gergiev that sided with Putin against the Georgians, who appears in ads for Putin's election campaign, who sided with Putin against the poosy cat doll and qu33r nation, who was banned from Ukraine due to his long standing support for the annexation of Crimea - that Gergiev that has serially supported the Putin regime instead of always saying 'no comment'?

I didn`t say I did not care if they lost their jobs, and never once said it is their fault, so stop making things up. The fault is squarely on the shoulders of Chelsea`s owners. I said they would not be the first to lose their jobs if a company went under, and I said there are plenty of jobs out there, so they would have no need to be unemployed. It happens, companies go bust, it is the way of the world.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You did. I cant be bothered to seek out your previous posts, it's not worth it, but you said it was their own fault for going to work for an Oligarch.
No one is questioning he's dodgy and in the grand scheme of things is getting his comeuppance but you need to see the wider picture here. Not everyone is guilty. It just reeks of cheap point scoring which in the context of things just feels a bit wrong. But I know you wont see that so I'm only wasting my time. Again.

"Shut up and keep quiet" gets you the best pat on the back government attention? No way....make your voices heard. Bravo you Blues wish I could have been there to support you all!

I will happily defend Chelsea as a club because they don't deserve the condemnation some want to bring upon them. And the fans certainly don't deserve to have their club threatened.
However, I find people like Tway baffling. I don't understand how you could want to show such admiration for someone so undeserving. All because he gave the team you support a few quid. It's astonishing.

Naby your first paragraph is spot on. Also those trying a pathetic point scoring process with this based on fooking football tribalism need slapping like the red headed stepchild

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Rangers were not relegated. They were liquidated. A new legal entity club that was formed was allowed accelerated progress into the lowest league despite not meeting the rules for admission and trampling over other clubs that would have liked admission and who did meet the criteria. The new club claimed they'd bought the old clubs history. Thems the facts.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm pleased you understand Palmers. The Kremlin has long arms and Boris Berezovski spoke out on Putin and later hanged himself. Last week Berezovski's close friend, Ukranian Mikhail Watford was found dead in his Surrey mansion.

Again.
