Liverpool v Wolves Match Day [LIVE]

Finishing in the top half of the league has to be a positive but the form over the last half a dozen games was a real negative for sure. Our two main shortcomings were highlighted in those games. Our lack of goalscorers means you wouldn’t bet on us scoring more than once against any opposition. And then when even just one or two of our key players are absent we become half as good. No coincidence that the performances against Newcastle, Burnley and Brighton came when Neves was missing.

We haven’t addressed the goalscoring issue since Jota left. And we haven’t provided depth to the squad despite the obvious effect Raul’s injury had on our league position last season.

Let’s see what the summer brings

Don’t know what the solution is to the pitch invasion problems. Clearly the police and stewards are incapable of stopping them and also clearly there’s going to be a small minority of the fans that are likely to do something stupid or violent once they’re on the pitch.

Hope the reaction isn’t to reintroduce pitchside fencing. That proved to be a big factor in the Hillsborough disaster

You would hope that punishments would deter and I saw that the guy that assaulted Billy Sharp has been arrested brought to court already. He's been pleading that a prison sentence would mean he wouldnt be able to pay his mortgage and leave his family destitute. Absolutely incredible that people like this have no concept of the link between actions and consequences.

Looks like Liverpool are following the Wolves example of recognising the talents available from Portuguese football. After signing Jota, the reds moved to sign Diaz who has been brilliant in recent months. They have also tied up a deal to sign 19 year old Carvalho from Fulham. Now they’ve secured a deal to give them first option on Fabio Viera from Porto when he decides to move on

Seen a few comments online that Wolves should spread their wings and not rely so much on Portuguese. But it still seems to be a market worth tapping into

I was on a facebook group and they were suggesting moving away from Mendes' contact book but for me it should be supplemented really and not thrown away, a lot of these players we have you could argue with a huge amount of certainty we only have because of him

We have done well with the Portuguese so far so I see no reason to alter that.
However we need Fosun to open the purse strings and then the club not to ditch players too early.

Yeah, without Mendes we wouldn't be doing as well

Interesting stat from the web site:

"Away from home, Wolves have been a tough nut to crack, which is evident in one mightily impressive stat. Bruno Lage’s side haven’t conceded a first-half goal in any of their last 17 away Premier League games, which is the longest run of any club in the competition’s history."

pity it all falls apart after half time.

That is a pretty amazing stat. Things don’t fall away that often. We have won more away than we’ve lost and got 3 more points away than at home

Be surprised if Liverpool don’t score in the first half tomorrow though

Lawro caves in to pressure from halfy and gives his last set of predictions tomorrow.
2-0 Liverpool he says.

5-0 Liverpool I reckon.

I think 3-0. By half time City will probably be a couple up and then Liverpool heads will drop and the second half will be a practice game with both teams not giving a shat.

Could be an odd game in many different ways. Goal difference isn't a thing now so if say city are goalless going into the latter stages or even losing then Liverpool will become very cagey and may be defending a lead to become champs.

Julian Lopetegui has admitted he came close to being Wolves manager in 2016 but instead took the job as Spain manager. He has since gone on to be Seville manager and had this season taken them to a champions league position in La Liga. But he has announced that he will be moving on this summer and rumours have surfaced again about him coming to Molineux.

Birmingham Mail reckon Wolves are on the verge of signing Gabriel Slonina who is a Polish keeper currently playing for Chicago Fire. He is a teenager and the fee is said to be £10m. With a revamp of the side needed, spending that much on one for the future seems bonkers to me.

Wolves also linked with the Italian born, Nigerian defender Calvin Bassey who is 22 and has had a good season with Glasgow Rangers. But he is being watched by quite a few clubs after a good performance in the recent Europa League final

The wolves way it seems.

About as strong as we could be I think.

Donk for HHC.

And Sa for Ruddy of course

Think that would be the expected team. An extra one in midfield against this opposition is predictable

Van Dijk and Salah just recovered from injury but only on the bench today with the champions league final in mind. Jota, Mane and Diaz still looks a decent front line
