if this has been said earlier then I haven't seen it... Root is actually 1 day older than Cook at achieving 10,000 test runs, more leap years in Cook's 😉

De Grandhomme has been ruled out of the rest of the series, bad luck for him. Micheal Bracewell has been called in.

Leach retains his place so we are unchanged. Thought Overton might come in but makes sense to pick the XI we thought was the best XI last time out. With 3 seamers plus Stokes, we don't need another seamer but having a spinner is a must even if he's not a match winner.

No real surprise is it. They'll want to give all the marginal calls like Crawley and Bairstow more than one test to prove the selectors right...

Bairstow and Crawley will be irrationally backed for the summer whilst Brook and Compton continue to churn out runs for their respective counties. Although I do think Compton will come in for Lees if he keeps failing.

Kane Williamson is out of the second Test with Covid. Hamish Rutherford comes into the squad. Latham will captain.

Gutting

So...a couple of good breaks for us then...two top players out...but I think the paying public would rather see them in

Expecting a lively test, the Lords one was a real bonus entertainment wise

Williamson hasn't been in the best of form but still a class act. Looks like it'll be Rutherford, Nicholls and Wagner in for Williamson, de Grandhomme and Patel although I think Matt Henry would be a better option especially at Trent Bridge.

Forecast looks decent, the batting line ups are fragile so we should get a result.

Sounds like it'll be Nicholls, Bracewell and Henry in with Conway moving up to 3. Still a pretty strong team!

England have won the toss and will bowl.

Bowling first, going to need early inroads as there is some grass but it sounds like it's dry underneath and the wind will probably hinder the bowlers with a strong crosswind. Could be a good toss for NZ to lose.

Gough said he'd bat first

Need a wicket

Answers on the back of a stamp. why you bowl first on a flat pitch. and you have a spinner in the 11. Surely you bat first????

It appears we have got this wrong, could change

Need a wicket ffs

I guess the benefit of bowling first is we're now 20-2 now.

Ridiculous decision to bowl first

Poor from England, so poor.

arrogance.. ohh this is NZ we bowled them out cheaply in the last game. tis easy boys. You should always bat first at Trent Bridge. unless its ultra green the pitch and theres over head conditions.

posted on 10/6/22

It's not really arrogance. The pitch is green and it is cloudy, but i'd say it's more we know our bowling is our best attribute so Stokes wanted them to set the tone.

If we had batted would you be surprised if we were 40/2 right now?
