It's embarrassing watching the team in Trafalgar Square today. TV switched off, as they seem to be showing nothing else except this cringy rubbish.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The men's team would have done exactly the same.

For someone who's not bothered about Women's football, you seem strangely obsessed with it. Take a day off Sandy and let the rest of the country enjoy the moment for what it is. If you can't be happy for them then there is something deeply wrong with you. But then, I guess we always knew that.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Absolutely not obsessed with it. But it has been blanket coveraged down our throats for the past 24 hours. They need to give it a rest.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Would you still be moaning if the men's team were given the same level of coverage (which they would be)?

It's very easy to avoid it, if you really want to.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Not overly keen on men`s International football either.

It is the general hype over everything in the modern age that get`s my back up. Everything is hyped up to ridiculous highs, then quickly forgotten when something else happens.

As somebody who was at the 1966 WorldCup Final, I do not remember anywhere near the hype around that final. Yes there were some celebrations. But all I seem to remember is going to the match, coming home, having a chat with my mates about the result, then more or less forgetting all about it.

No doubt they will be giving Damehoods to the whole England Women`s team, and heard something nonsensical about giving everyone a day off work. FFS it`s a game of women`s football, Not VE Day.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Did you qualify for the seniors discount that day Sandy?

Cos you’re old innit
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I was 17.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

And you didn’t go out on the lash afterwards?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
He had too go back in2 the mine n clean the bat-turds outta the difference engine

And then cycle 10 miles home, except he was the bike

1949? Same age as my old man. The only thing about that is this would make you 72-73 but I'm pretty sure you said you were in your 70s about 10 years ago. Or have I got that wrong? I can't remember if that's a memory from someone else's comment rather than you're own.

Disappointing comments on here imo, and missing a couple of key points:

1. It’s a really good thing for society if womens sport develops. It is good for tackling obesity, it’s good for equality and it’s good for young girls to have positive role models in sport. It’s also good for young men to see and be part of… crucial, if you want change.

2. Rome wasn’t built in a day. You have to invest in order to seek progressive behaviour change. Leaving it to market forces is unlikely to work and expecting it to immediately accelerate in quality and participating is naive. It takes time. Generations.

Now, if you accept both of those points, you can’t really grumble about the media coverage or anything else with how this tournament has been handled.

It was a great day for the UK.

I also think, and am sorry to say, that if you find yourself trying to rationalise your dislike of the tournament and the coverage around it then some of you should have a deep, honest look inside of yourselves and ask if maybe it’s something else.

The thing is, I like football.
Women’s football is miles below the standard of football I like watching. That’s the reason I hardly watch it, and I do think it’s massively over hyped in the media. The levels these “lionesses” play at is - if we’re being honest - about conference league / non league standard imo. Would I want to watch the conference league? No.

Here’s an analogy : I like live music. For example, I’ve been to see U2 live. They were excellent. Premier league standard.

I’ve seen a U2 tribute band. They were pretty good. Championship / lower league level.

Would I go and see a recently formed youth club / school band version of U2 ? No, because they’d be really poor. Women’s football Level.

I do think it’s good that’s women’s football becoming more widespread is good, just stop pretending it’s anywhere near the standard of the men’s game, because it quite simply isn’t even close to it.

Well said Winston.

The people who moan about woman’s football not being as good as mens, well, should women just sack off sport altogether because they’re not able to perform to the same level as the men? Obviously not. I don’t personally so that men who really care about that would watch woman’s football anyway even if they did play close to the level of men. Get over yourselves that they’re trying to push Woman’s football, the only way for it to grow and get better is exposer and inspiring more generations to take part.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

BBC keep saying first trophy since 1966. So obviously comparing them with the men.

Also saying the England women's striker is closing in on Wayne Rooney's record.

It is that nonsense that turns a lot of us off Winston. There simply is, and never will be any comparison between men's and women's football.

Well, there’s no mention of the standard of football there, so I don’t agree.

I was asking Be a Grizzly btw.

No one has compared the standard of the two. In that instance I believe he’s trying to rationalise his negative feelings towards the womens game.

This is the excuse of those who don’t watch it. They compare it to the mens as a way of saying it’s not watchable.

This is a very annoying tbh and I'm a big follower of woman's football.

The media is trying to change the perception of woman's football but they are doing it in a very disingenuous way, it's very manipulative and they are treating football fans like idiots.

I do not want to see any more merges of the women and men's game if not iin a few years they will be talking about having equal pay for women.

Having said that if you don't like something that's fine, you don't have to be a prrick about it.

Their level would be under 15 year olds boys I think, the US team played an under 15 year old boys team and got comprehensively beaten.

However it's irrelevant, women and men's game should always be separate
