Balogun would be our third best defender at best. Davies looked far more composed and a better defender. Think a lot of folk forget Balogun’s mistakes and injuries, he’d have been a huge help right now though.

Tilman I’d take for the buy out fee. He’s a kid with only a handful of matches to his name and been the difference maker for us quite a few times.

Sands never worth the cash. So unless there getting for 2/3m, not worth it, even then he’d mostly valuable as versatile and not made of chocolate.

Worry is the number of new players needed. Tav looks like he’s carrying an injury so no idea why Devine hasn’t played

posted on 2/11/22

Devine is not at the standard required. Though that goes for lots of them but the thinking seems to be Tav at 50% is better than Devine.

Davies i'm not sold on tbh, he looked good with Goldson but without him he needs to do more to convince me. I think he will if and it's a big if his body allows him.

I wouldn't pay a penny for Sands. He's not good enough in any position he plays in.

Tillman I get, it's an expensive gamble but he does show a lot of ability. Even tracking back last night well at times. If we were selling Hagi then I definitely would but nobody will want him until he's back playing well and that means taking Tillman's spot.

Lawrence and Lowry for 10 as well, so what do you do with them 3 if you take Tillman?

Getting sick of listening to many bears trying to explain away how $hite we've been in Europe this season

"Injuries"
"Step up in class"
"Wasn't that long ago we were down the leagues"

Not buying any of it

See if PSV beat us...I truly believe we would have been skelped in the Europa League groups this season...might not have finished bottom with 0 points and -20 GD, but I really don't think we would have made it out the group's

We've been rank rotten

The injury situation has a lot to do with our pi$$ poor recruitment in the summer

We've been skelped twice at Celtic Park in 2022, very similar performance and result to some of the skelpings we've got in the CL...so folk can talk about the step up in class all they want, the proof is there that we are getting skelped in a similar fashion outside the CL too

If I have to listen to Gio talk about other teams getting the weekend off.....or saying the word moment for the 7000th time, I swear I'm gonna stick ma heid in a deep fat fryer

We are fcking mince...there is nothing to sugar coat, and it's only going to get worse if we don't make a change

posted on 2/11/22

Between January and next summer we need wholesale changes.

Replace McGregor
Replace Helander/Sands. Probably 1 CB if he's reliably fit.
A back up RB if Devine or Zurkowski don't cut it, which it looks like they don't.
Replace Jack, Davis, Arfield
Replace Kent
Buy a Decent RW
Replace Roofe and Morelos

That is before you get on to anyone fit, under contract and underperforming

New / McCrorie / McLaughlin
Barasic / Yilmaz
Davies / New
Goldson / Souttar / King
Tavernier / New
Lundstram / New / New
Kamara / New / McCann
Lawrence / New
Hagi / Tillman* / Lowry
New / Matondo / Wright
New / Colak / Sakala

At minimum 9 in, without anyone else leaving and 5m already spent. We better be all over that free market and young guys down the road looking for first team football like Aribo, Bassey.

You’ll have hunners a money to be able to do that with ease.

posted on 2/11/22

I agree on all of that Stevie.

Nothing but schite excuses and we would have been lucky to make the conference if we had got in the Europa. We caught PSV on a bad night when we had our best. A fluke.

Work for next season should start now, that doesn't mean surrendering the league it means realising we are at the stage when we need new ideas all over. Bar a Celtic capitulation, we won't be good enough this season so focus on being strong enough next.

No many players in the Premiership worth looking at either which makes it difficult. In times gone by we could snap up 2/3 for reasonable prices that would do a decent job but it's full of schite at the moment.

Another reason why i would go for Dyche if he's daft enough/fancies a crack at winning things and European football. He will know plenty good players down the road.

Not seen enough of Devine to know, was really good in that nothing game against Hearts last season. Apart from QoS, where he was fine makes no sense on those games to say he’s not good enough. Especially when he’s just signed a new contract. He’s young but Tav has been awful and being targeted because he simply doesn’t look 100%, don’t see how he can be worse.

Take on Sands is simply daft. Made a big difference at cm on Saturday, plays more progressive passes than anyone in the team. You’ve had opinions on that that were simply wrong before.

Lawrence and Tilman were both playing in the same team and doing well, with Lawrence on the right. Worked well against PSV. Can see how Lowry gets on rest of season, if he does well agree there’s no need for Tilman unless Tilman kicks on even more. Lowry has been playing deeper in games recently as well.

I'd make the managerial change now, or at least as soon as the break in the season comes

The Champions League campaign has been nothing but negative for us...it's now over, and I can't think of a better time to make a change, to put that spell truly behind us, and to come back after this unique mid-season break with a different manager, different mindset, and hopefully....improved performances

Just feels so stale under Gio now ....and that's saying something considering he's only been in charge for just over a year...team just isn't performaning, one good performance every 3-4 games won't win us anything

Not quite a year.

I would but I have no confidence in Wilson to appoint someone better.

Also won’t make any difference results wise domestically. Especially given the injuries we currently have, even with the injuries Gio has a better domestic points per game record than any Rangers manager last twenty years I’m sure.

posted on 2/11/22

Lawrence hasn't played on the right for us. Check his stats, they were good in the same team but he played CM. Would be a big help if that was his position going forward if he can produce performances like he was doing, badly missed that drive and eye for a pass.

On Devine fair enough, I can't see it but he's not had much of a chance

If you rate Sands fair enough but i'm not seeing a good player. You won't win things if he's a regular starter imo. Too often passes to the other team. It says a lot he can't get a spot unless we are in an injury crisis.

Gio, well on board with getting shot of him and I have been most of the season.

Without direct pressure of a good Celtic team mind, or fans in stadiums, both contributory factors (not taking away how good rangers were that season)

For me the difference has been that Celtic’s performances have been decent, but the results have been poor. Rangers performances have been abysmal, and the results embarrassing.

There’s more of a foundation to work from with Celtic than there is at rangers in relation to the players and management team, as well as the finances.

If any rangers fan wants to take solace in comparing the CL campaigns, then batter in. I can’t see it though.

Not finished the thread but this is harsh. Who at the start of the season would have predicted the outcomes? The emotions have been amplified by those expectations and them being at odds with the outcomes.

we're well off the required level but at least we actually gave teams in our group a game

imagine paying £180 quid to watch 3 teams train on your pitch, 8 shots on target, £22.50 a shot on goal

Scottish Premiership
Gio 2.34 points per game.
Walter (2nd spell) 2.33 points per game.

It won't stay like that but I am surprised.

Smith took over a shambles after PLG and Gio took over a team that cantered to an unbeaten title win with a 4 point lead and ended up 4 points behind so the context is different but still a good stat for now.

‘he is CM playing in CB facts are facts.’

He plays CB for his international team apparently, and probably 90 odd percent of his games for his club have been at CB?!

Ok.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
how many games has he played at CB for America.

Ryan Jack has had to play at CB for us more times than Sands has played CB for America... is Jack a CB?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Sands has played for the US national side 7 times from the looks of it. What position has he played in those games?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
He has 51 appearances at CB.

On another note, he's a total cant but would you take Porteous on a free?

Pre-contract there for someone to take in Jan.

I'm not sure but we will need a few freebies and as back up to Davies and Goldson to start he could be worth looking at.
