It's a contact sport. There being contact doesn't necessarily mean it's a foul. A foul must be a foul. A foul is not just contact.

Thought the lack of protest from Fulham said a lot too, surely they would of pushed for a review given what was at stake?

First time I saw it back, I thought it was poor defending, a dive and a pen all at the same time (the last one due to how refs and VAR overly interpret contact to mean a foul nowadays).

Thought the more interesting one yesterday for both referee decisions and VAR was the Forest game. That seemed to be a really inconsistent application of it just in one game.

The de Bruyne one still doesn’t look like a penalty to me. Having said that, the defender doesn’t complain, so perhaps the contact was fuller than it looked on TV. Still, it’s only a trailing leg from the defender and de Bruyne certainly seems to milk the fall. I wouldn’t have given it.

Sticking with MOTD, it's weird that they dismissed three or four penalty claims in the Forest-Brentford game as "dives" or "not enough contact", when they were all about as convincing as the penalty de Bruyne won.

KdB had just played for 95 minutes against a team who were constantly cheating with blatent timewasting and cynical fouls.

Indeed, it is even without “when the player cheats”, which is probably why so many seem to interpret contact equals foul nowadays. That’s why I said I thought it was poor defending too, players have got to not give the referee the option in the first place. There was a covering defender there, it wasn’t needed.

In the ground, I didn’t even think it was contentious tbh given the reaction. It’s only on seeing it back afterwards.
