Salah was offside when the ball was played. If he wasn't he'd not have got the ball from the passback. The law is the problem.

The attacker then benefits from being offside. The offside status of a player is decided when their team mate touches the ball and I don't think it is justified to change that status because a defender tried to stop the ball.
