I thought Paul Williams was an excellent player. He started out as a central midfielder and used to get a decent number of goals. When he went back into the centre of defence he was a really solid defender and good on the ball, maybe not all that dissimilar to Cashin now. But he will always be remembered for somehow ducking under the ball to allow Leicester's equaliser in the 1994 play-off fina;. I was right in line with it and it seemed impossible that he should fail to clear it. That mistake gave Leicester a lifeline when we were so much on top the game was all but won.

I recall Paul Williams as a great player but that can sometimes be due to the rose tinted glasses in your youth.

I remember watching the play off final but didn't know that Paul Williams' error cost us. Steve Walsh's smug face was all I could remember of that horrible afternoon.

Just landed home after a 3½ drive home.

I don't know why Williams used to get booed on his return. He went to Coventry when they were in the top division after we had failed to go up. I think it was felt he was disloyal, that he should have stayed to help,get us up.

That afternoon at Wembley was awful. I genuinely couldn't speak for about two hours. That was the last match I saw for a year because I went to Canada for work. My mother-in-law sent me tapes of Radio Derby commentary of the matrches.

Anyway. I feel we have a compact shape tonight, playing to try to nick it.
