Just because France were poor for much of it doesn’t mean the game wasn’t great. The turn of events was so dramatic, Mbappe’s second was some incredible skill and as finals go it was a brilliant game to watch. A great games doesn’t have to be exhilarating for 90 minutes, it has to have great moments which this game had plenty of.
United’s 2-1 win over Bayern in ‘99 was one sided for virtually all of it but the final 3-4 minutes made is great. Liverpool were easily the poorer sides against Milan in ‘05 apart from a 10 minute period, does that make it not a great game?

Italia 90 will always be the greatest World Cup for obviously reasons for me and regardless of what folk think Maradona is the greatest player of all time imo

They created the better chances. Or at least made the most the the good positions they got into. But we created a lot of openings ourselves, although our players kept scuffing shots and getting their headers wrong. It certainly wasn't one sided. It was very even really.
You see that’s what I mean, itv news now claiming Messi had dragged his team to glory singlehandedly
Not only is it bull$hit it’s also disrespectful to his teammates, but don’t let that get in the way of a good fairy story

I’m not so sure, I can say that was one of the best WC finals I’ve seen, and I know who the best footballer I’ve ever seen is, but I couldn’t say either were the best ever

And that ending is why the game if considered iconic/great which was my point. A great game doesn’t have to be great for 90 min.
I don’t think I’ve even seen the ‘99 final in full since I watched it live. I’ll probably notice a bunch of stuff I didn’t when I was drunk watching it back then.

Nah we were just wasteful. Blomqvist skied one from 6 yards, Stam should have hit the target with a header, Cole miskicked a really good chance crossed in from the right and had a good chance with a header that Kahn saved low to his left. Cole also has an overhead kick chance that he messed up. And that is without the chances we created to score the goals. It was a very even game, but because we scored late, people say we were lucky and dominated. It's just not true
