Erm, I really didn't think he performance last night was especially great. The volley for his second was excellent. He stuck a nice cross in near the end and he also had a lovely run near the end. And he showed really nerve with the penalties. To score 3 like that with the pressure showed great character.
But overall, I didn't think he was that great in open play. First 75 minutes or so he barely had a kick.
I do agree that the Mbappe (and Haaland) era is upon us though.
Mbappe was the difference for France.
Why Deschamps waited until the 80th minute to bring him on is beyond me.
Agreed OP. He was brilliant and has been brilliant tbh. Supremely confident and as fast as a cheetah. He's the complete package because he's got everything. Haaland is another generational talent, respect to him, but Mbappe is just more exciting and more entertaining to watch.
If we get taken over by some human rights abusing state entities then the least they can do is go for players like Mbappe. That would sportswash their image no end.

Yes it does. One man can only do so much, and he did it all himself anyway in the end.
Maybe he should have scored one goal in the 35th minute, another in the 75th and another in the 115th minute.
I believe the above distribution of his goals, instead of a 10 minute blitz, would have negated whatever point you're trying to make. And if so then it doesn't matter what minute he did what he did, the point is he did it.

you said he is the complete package and he has everything.
In the final with his team 2 down, he was still not working hard out of possession. He doesnt have everything , he has elite qualities that are very important in the position he plays but he is not the complete package. not a chance.
He literally carried that France team on his own last night
…..
No he did not. For the first 80 minutes his contribution was one shot that went over the bar by about ten yards. It wasn’t him that kept them in the game until that point.
Had Otamendi not had his usual brain fart we would be asking if he was all he was hyped up to be, today.
Fair play for what went on after that. Some balls to me three out of three penalties.

You're looking at it as glass half empty. What you should be saying is look what he did in just 40 minutes. World Cup final hattrick in 40 minutes! Fack me! How long did Hurst take? I can't remember as 1966 is along time ago. My Dad was a boy in 1966. I was born and now have kids without anyone doing it. Mbappe did it in less than one half of football.
What
A
Player!
Also, 80th minute of just one game? He was top scorer with 8 goals. The world cup is a tournament where teams play multiple games, it's not the Community Shield. You can't cherry pick 80 minutes out of 720.

his finish for the second was amazing. He didnt blink when hitting the penalties, he is a world class player but lets not kid ourselves and say he has everything in his locker, is the complete package, ran the show in the final and had a great game. Thats not what I saw at all.
I saw a guy for 80 mins who barely had a kick and didnt do any work off the ball when his team was struggling for momentum and possession of the ball.
I then saw him take over when his team were on the front foot and Argentina retreated back to protect their lead. For about 20 mins Mbappe was excellent. the game lasted 120 mins.

The whole team was pash and remained pash and there was nothing he could do to stop Messi and co. He did his part better than it's been done for a long time. He showed up You should factor that fact into your view.
So what your saying is that Mbappe should have single handedly saved France's ass earlier in the game, no?
Had Otamendi not had his usual brain fart we would be asking if he was all he was hyped up to be, today.
=====
I doubt that. Even without the final he was still the best player in the tournament besides Messi. He had already proven himself before the final. That's how good he was.
I saw a guy for 80 mins who barely had a kick and didnt do any work off the ball when his team was struggling for momentum and possession of the ball

This has happened to Messi, Ronaldo, Maradona, Pele and every other player at some point or another. You're really stretching this into the unreasonable.

Who said anything about complete players
"Dude", I said he has everything. I didn't think I needed to explain what that means, and it doesn't mean the same as a complete player. VVD has everything too, and a few other players.
The defensive side of Mbappe's game isn't non existent. It's where it's supposed to be. He is an out and out attacker/striker so he doesn't need a defensive side like a defender does. He only needs a little. He has enough defense to excel in his position, therefore, he has everything.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
you said he is the complete package and he has everything.

Is this going to be Messi Vs Ronaldo all over again?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
no not at all. Mbappe is world class and thre is a good chance he becomes the best player in the world.
I just think for 80mins in the final he disappeared, and isnt the complete package as is being described.
Just my opinion.

"one man can only do so much"
he did NOTHING until the 80 min. Perhaps if he did perform or failing that (cos he was having a poor game) at least offer a bit of help off the ball out of possession maybe his team wouldnt have been 2 down and up against it, and then ultimately lose the game
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You're looking at it as glass half empty.

Mbappe was the difference for France.
Why Deschamps waited until the 80th minute to bring him on is beyond me.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The whole France team was brought on in the 80th minute.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
true but it doesnt excuse him being rank rotten until the end of the game.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yes it does.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
every time he got the ball he was completely ineffective. And I hate to break it to you it did cost the team. if he had performed from the start maybe he wouldnt have had to watch Messi lift the trophy
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The whole team was pash and remained pash and there was nothing he could do to stop Messi and co. He did his part better than it's been done for a long time. He showed up You should factor that fact into your view.
So what your saying is that Mbappe should have single handedly saved France's ass earlier in the game, no?

I doubt that. Even without the final he was still the best player in the tournament besides Messi. He had already proven himself before the final. That's how good he was.

This has happened to Messi, Ronaldo, Maradona, Pele and every other player at some point or another. You're really stretching this into the unreasonable.
