I just dont get how some cant who does nothing but football can't use their weak foot.
I can use both left and right ffs, and I have to pay to play football. Absolute lazy cant he is.
One of the things that winds me up the most about pro footballers, they simply shouldn't be poor at certain things if all they do is facking playing football.
Underwhelming so far but far too early to fairly judge.
Those that have suggested Amad might challenge next season how has he actually been as a winger? From a purely statically base he seems to be scoring but not really assisting? Is he much of a threat on the wings or is more effective centrally?
I only saw the last 30 minutes of last night's game and Antony was off the pitch already by then but it's disappointing to read that his performance wasn't any better than what we're growing used to.
I think part of the frustration with him is maybe the expectation on arrival that he was a player that at the very least would excite and entertain with his skills. But it's becoming apparent that he isn't a player that runs at his fullback and takes people on. No issue with that, but in that case we need to start seeing some creative play. At the moment the precision simply isn't there. I often expect him to lose the ball if he's doing anything other than a simple pass, which isn't an endearing feature of his game to say the least!
5 goals already is at least something to cling to, but we need to see more in his overall play. He's young and there's going to be a learning curve coming to the PL, so that's a factor. And with hopefully a fitter Sancho coming back soon we'll have least have options on the right.
We also can't overlook his fee. It's a massive amount of money for a player than doesn't look anywhere close at the moment to being one of the best wide players in the PL. You look at Gnonto at Leeds for £4m, or even someone like Olise at Palace and I don't really see than Antony is a better player than them.

Gnoto looks an absolute steal. Got a few Leeds fans raving about him and already resigned to the fact that he will probably move on for £60-£80m.

From what I have seen of the highlights and match reports, he has only started about half of his games on the right wing. He also played 5/6 times up front and a few times as AM. When playing RW he does tend to come inside and get involved in play centrally - he is left footed same as Antony. But he does use his right foot too and will go outside and get a cross in.
Again, I am only going off highlights, but he looks a threat wherever he plays.
I have not warmed to Antony yet. He does not seem to be very productive and as I have said before needs to take players on by going outside instead of cutting inside all the time.

On the few occasions he does go on the outside the attack just fizzles out because he can't kick the ball with his right foot.

If he could cross with his left foot this wouldn't be a problem at all... But he can't seem to manage that either.
His cameo for Brazil in the quarters against Croatia and his second half against City away are the only reasons I'm holding out hope for him...
In his favour, he has an eye for goal, works hard, stays fit, speedy.
All the negative comments are true, so we need him and the coaches to work on it.
He’s been poor so far. He needs to do a lot more with the ball, especially when it comes to beating his man. I think we’ll see more from him next season, however, once he’s settled and some tactical issues with the team are resolved.

He doesn't have to be fantastic with his right foot either. Just flinging it in there with his right from time to time would at least put some doubt in the mind of the full back.
We do look a bit more balanced with him there though and he does work hard so I think there is a player in there. The fee isn't really his fault.

Yes our shape is better. But I don’t think we are balanced between attack and defence this season regardless of who is starting. We’re set up in a way that is prioritising the defence, and the attack does suffer as a result, even if the individual form of many of the attackers is an issue.
not really sure why people are shocked he doesnt use his right foot.... you could probably count on one hand the amount of players who are actually decent with their weaker foot.
how many times do you see Rashford running down the left and whipping a ball in with his left foot... hardly ever... but thats the sacrifice you have to make when you play a left footed player on the right and vice versa

As I said earlier, the fact we have a semi-decent crosser in Shaw down the left probably gives Rashford a bit of a get out of jail card in that respect. However, he is still better than Antony with his weak foot. In addition, Rashford is very good at playing on the shoulder and so is often running in the channel or cutting across/behind the defender, heading for goal rather than a crossing position. If Antony could provide that kind of threat in behind then his crossing wouldn't be so much on an issue.
Crossing isn’t that useful in this United team given the lack of players that are good in the air and the amount of players we get in the box.

I think that it has/will become more useful with the arrival of Weghorst.
But its not just about crossing (in the air) with Antony. He literally won't kick the ball with his right foot. No pulls backs, no short passes, nothing. I know he doesn't get to the byline that often, but when he does and he's in a dangerous position, he cuts back and the attack fizzles out because he doesn't have the ability to pull the ball back across goal with his weak foot. The Charlton game was a prime example. He got to the byline on a few occasions, then ran himself in circles. Very frustrating to watch.
It should help a bit yeah. But he’ll still find it difficult when he’s being marked by two cb’s. I agree about Antony as well. But also it’s an issue regarding getting into the positions to regularly make cut backs and having enough men in the box. These are systemic issues that won’t be resolved until we get more comfortable with positional play, and address the problems that we have with playing a high line and applying pressure for extended periods of games.
We are a team that still look at our best when defending deeper and attacking in transition. It’s going to take time to develop into a team that plays a more dominant style of football.
The results have been pretty good overall, but there’s still so much we need to improve individually and collectively. It’s a balancing act between getting results and changing our style of football.
I hope we start thinking twice about signing players for 80m and upwards personally as not a single one so far has been a success anyway.
It probably puts a lot of pressure on them too which is unfair in a lot of cases.

As a left footed player I have to take issue with this. Myself and pretty much all the other left footed players I know are actually quite handy with their/our right foot, particularly because right footed players love to shout "he's all left" whenever they are against a left footed player. You rarely here anyone say "he's all right", so lefties tend to deliberately work their opposite foot more.
The vast majority of people are right footed, so I think left-footed players stand out more. Even as one myself, when I'm against a left footed player, I have to admit it looks slightly... distinct. But the idea that lefties are more one footed than right footed players is completely the opposite way around in my experience. I think that perception just comes from a right footed bias.
BK, I was talking more at the top level. I’d also argue that right footed players have to work more on the left foot as they’ve traditionally had to fill in positions that have been more naturally suited to left footed players, as there’s a minority of left footers in football.
