Rooney & Butt

Fletcher or Butt would be one: we need cover and quality in DM. Having looked up his stats for 2011-14, I'd take Rooney as the other. I know we were all moaning about him at that time, but some aspects of his game may compare favourably with Weghorst's. I feel bad about picking JSP though.

Butt - we need a DM

McClair - best version at CF. Think Rooney was on the decline those years apart from 11/12.

I nearly picked Kanchelskis though as adding pace and directness would be good too.

They'd all get in our current squad too

We were spoilt with Rooney, even at his worst that was largely to do with him doing a job for the team.

I'd probably go Rooney and JSP. Both would be fantastic in a Ten Hag system.

Fletch would be a notable option, alongside Casemiro we'd have a very good midfield.

Rooney and Berbatov.

Rooney is a no-brainer, surely. He was delivering a goal/assist a game 2011-2014.

Antony------Bruno/Rooney------Rashford/Sancho

---------------Rooney/Berba

Yes, please. I'd lose a finger to watch Rooney and Bruno play together.

Just looking at our last starting XI:

OFFICIAL #mufc XI vs Southampton:
De Gea
Wan-Bissaka (Parker)
Varane
Martinez
Shaw
Casemiro
Fernandes (Butt)
Antony (Kanchelskis)
Sancho (Fernandes)
Rashford
Weghorst (McClair)

And, in brackets, how I'd change it with the players in Robb's list. I guess the point Robb is making here is that even our squad players from yesteryear would get into our squad now. I did think of Sharpe LW and Rashford up top too but I like the intelligence of McClair there.

De Gea

Parker
Varane
Martinez
Shaw

Butt
Casemirio

Kanchelskis
Bruno
Rashford

McClair

I'd go for the adaptability of both Park and Rooney. Give you options at DM, CM, ACM, ST and out wide.

I get the feeling you regularly lose 5 fingers when watching Bruno play.

Nani is superior to any winger we have right now, bar rashford.

I'd be interested to see how Berbatov would do. He's the
Penthouse Weghorst.

George Best - the most naturally gifted player ever.
Denis Law - probably only Malcolm MacDonald could head a ball as well.
Bobby Charlton - Only Peter Lorimer of Leeds Utd and possibly one of the Hibberts who played for Newcastle had a harder measured shot.

I did think about Berba, but ultimately he didn't do enough at United for me. That said, he would really suit the role that ETH asks Weggy to play.
