Sheikh Jassim Bin Hamad Al Thani would now be "willing to overpay" for Man Utd with a figure close to the Glazers' £6bn price tag after his representatives visited the club this week.
Welcome Sheikh Al Thani to OT!!!

I don’t believe a word of that. I’ve dealt with Qataris and whilst they do like trophy purchases, they don’t come out with comments like that at all.

We’re a relatively big business but what is more relevant is that we’re a really big brand.
I know they have the money but trust me they don’t behave like this. This has more than likely come from a United ‘leak’ to spur on the other interested parties.

No doubt I believe you know your stuff, and I agree paying over 6b may be far fetched. I do think they will agree on something like 5.5b, which is still overpaying as there is no justification from our business activities that we are worth that much and certainly not from our share price.

If we want a grown up conversation about this takeover we need to dispell any notion that some might have if Qatar, or any other foreign nationals, corporates or State Governments did acquire Man United, then they would operate the business in Mancheter UK, under their own (Qatar) employment and construction laws rules and regulations and ignore any UK leglislation in these sectors.
The prospect of rebuilding/developing Old Trafford in Trafford Borough with hundreds of imported asian (brown) modern slave workers being killed due to inappropriate working practices and cruelty isnt really going to happen.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The construction industry does not work like that in the UK. Even in Qatar, in the Oil and Gas sector, we do not adopt those practices.
The practices adopted were adopted by Construction companies who put profit over the welfare of staff and the vast majority of the construction in Qatar is done by Western companies.
This notion that everyone is Qatar does not care about the welfare of people is wrong and it needs to stop.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I don't think anyone has said that though, have they?
We're talking about the Qatari 'state' and the absolutist dictatorship which effectively represents the political executive, and exercises complete control over both policing and judiciary.
There are human rights campaigners and no doubt very many ordinary citizens in Qatar who will be disgusted with many and various actions and inactions of the dictatorship.
Nobody is trying to align all Qataris with the house of Al Thani.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
'and the vast majority of the construction in Qatar is done by Western companies.'
Interesting! Selective outrage! This point will be overlooked whilst they move on to complaining about a country that do not want men and men holding their hands and kissing on their streets. They also do not want women and men kissing and pissing on the floor come Friday night. Their country their bloody rules.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
“Selective outrage!”
Apologies for failing to mention every crime ever committed by every corporation everywhere in the world, regardless of whether they’ve ever expressed any interest in buying Manchester United, in my single post
This has been explained to you about fifty times now by many different people, but let’s try just one more time, Scholay.
Read the following sentence ten times, and see if you can finally get it to sink in:
NO CONSTRUCTION COMPANY, NOR THE UK OR US GOVERNMENTS, ARE TRYING TO BUY MANCHESTER UNITED FOOTBALL CLUB

RR they do. Just read UK based social media forums and football and Man United discussuon groups all over FB and other places like this regarding the potential 'threat' of a Qatari takeover. And Im not going to discuss this with you anymore
I dont want to argue with this tedious line that you insist I might support Qatari working malpractices and corruption. I dont. Im not arguing for them in anyway whatsoever, Straw Man or not. I agree there are literally millions of people out there motivated by islamophobia. Probably in the UK alone.
This thread is about Jim Radcliffe's bid.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Elvis pointed this out succinctly above. You suggested that we couldn't have a grown-up conversation about this topic until we'd put to bed the notion that a Qatari ownership would result in labour practices that are prevalent in Qatar but illegal in the UK implemented in Manchester. But this was not necessary to point out in order to have a grown-up conversation on this forum, because literally no one on this forum has ever made that claim, the idea wasn't part of the discussion.
That was my only point. I didn't raise my own issues with potential Qatari ownership (or any state ownership), which I have already outlined elsewhere, and I didn't intend to make any accusations about what you support. I was just questioning the relevance of your post to the discussion.
I would add, however, that if you see that myth as one of the key arguments being put forward against Qatari ownership, you could do with joining different Facebook groups, because it's an idiotic notion, and there are also rational, reality-based ethical arguments available.
As Rosso has explained, you're missing the point of moral objections, MUDD. I'm aware that you've encountered a good deal of mindless prejudice and Western superiority in relation to the Middle East in the course of your career, and that you therefore have very understandable reasons to be vigilant against those kinds of attitudes which, moreover, are unfortunately part of the social media discourse around Qatari sports investment. However, I would urge you to consider that there are also ethical arguments that are not infected with "we're better than them" views. For me, very much as Rosso has articulated, this is about United becoming a trophy asset for a repressive, authoritarian elite, which is a stance of *solidarity* with the Qataris and primarily South Asian migrant workers who are the victims of the regime.
The same objections would apply to any British/Western entity engaging in human rights abuses that wished to strengthen its soft power by acquiring Manchester United.

Wonder if scholay would still be all for the Qatari’s if they came in and decided they didn’t want the Hag?
