Mason is the "Fack it! We can't find anyone else" option.

assume he's turned us down and we're briefing that we're not interested, because the alternative would be absolutely mind-boggling
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Depends who you appoint. Could be that it’s someone that is a better fit for the club.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
don't think anyone is enough of a better fit to make up for them all being worse coaches

Just a thought but could we not appoint a manager first and then decide on a sporting director?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Surely it goes the other way round considering they would be working together. It's just opens the door for marriage made in hell...
----------------------------------------------------------------------
But the sporting director is there to help the manager are they not? In which case in the list of priorities you'd want to get a manager who fits the philosophy of the club first, then a suitable SD to help that manager and you could even discuss with the manager who they might want in as a SD.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Why would you do that when Spurs get through managers quicker than they do sporting directors?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Well the last time we brought in a SD before a manager, the managerial search didn't go too well, mainly because the managers the SD was looking at were at odds with what the chairman wanted, although we still managed to get 2 defensive minded managers through the door somehow.

The manager usually reports to the sporting director. They work for the SD do they not?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Depends on the balance of power. But when Spurs have issues with recruitment, it makes sense to prioritise a sporting director that can address that and then find a manager that can work within those conditions.

Unless you can manage to get the very best manager on the planet, it doesn’t make sense to do things the other way round.

Remains to be seen, though. Nobody knows what your recruitment will look like, and you may even appoint someone that is a better coach. I think Bagelsmann is massively overhyped.

Reckon they’re getting spooked by Pochettino going to Chelsea, so are going for him now?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
We're going to wait for Poch to have his medical at Chelsea before taking him.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
If we are doing that...and purely cos we don't want chels to get him....that's pathetic.

SD is there to provide continuity and long term strategy so that managers can come and go but progress and vision is consistent. So that you don’t bounce from a Poch to a Jose ( two polar opposite managers).

Whether you think this works or not, that’s supposed to be the aim; so yeah, you really should be appointing the SD first, and they are mandated with helping to ensure consistency of managers.

He’s a massive twaaat, but he actually is the best available for Spurs, in my opinion.

Then we would have to welcome Mason with open arms, tying Kane down to a long contract is paramount

Maybe it has been Poch all along, Levy and Poch have been stringing Cheatsea along, the until wum for that gutter club

Poch and Nagelsmann right there and we don't want either of them? Feck off!!!

This club is done. We could have had Poch back but that would have meant a concession from Levy that he made a mistake and would need to back him heavily to make up for it. Levy didn't do it. Moving on to Nagelsmann, he would have joined had we had the right structure for him - a director of football and a reasonable budget. Levy didn't do it.

My hunch is that he's turned us down and the club are saving face but whichever way you slice it this absolute smacks of a lack of ambition because the only reason to turn these guys down is because they will both make demands this ownership just can't keep. They want their little yes man on peanuts.

Honestly, I can't get my head around just how much Levy and ENIC have utterly ruined this club. He was once a shrewd negotiator in an age where prices were competitive. Not any more. We're competing with clubs run with gulf state money. Negotiating no longer holds the same value. Fees have inflated and club ambition has deflated.

We. Are. Done.

I don't think I care anymore. Who'd thought it. Billy was right all along. We won't do anything until the owners are gone. What's the point? Seriously? What's the point?
