I feel a bit sorry for Benfica. Quite a few of their fans were convinced this was the year to break the Bela Guttmann curse. I suppose the money for Enzo was too good to turn down, and I've no idea if his staying would have changed anything, but it's a sorry state of affairs when a potential title challenger can have their players poached mid-season like that.

Why, no one gives a shiiit about the Portuguese league

When I went to United's win in 1968 Vs Benfica with Eusebio I thought it great, I still do. So they count for me.

Lifelong UTD supporter RDD is insinuating that it was a lesser competition back then

This reminds me of when people say the CL is easier to win than the league and yet every club in history has more league titles than CL medals.

It's like we've just ordered Culer from Wish
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It’s certainly not easier to win but unlike a league you can actually win it without being the best team.

Nottingham Forest?

Anyway, it makes no difference… the CL/EC is a failed commercial venture that no one apart from Liverpool fans cares about

I guarantee the fans of Real Madrid, Barcelona, AC Milan, Man United etc would disagree wholeheartedly.

Out of interest, why do you say it's a commercial failure when the stats demonstrate the complete opposite?

Ahh I get it now, you're either a terrible WUM or as thick as two short planks. So which is it?

So the reason I say it’s a commercial failure is because Florentino Perez himself called it one. The man who’s had the most success in the CL and whose whole legacy as a sports administrator is defined by success in the CL, called it a commercial failure.

Think about it… 12 of the biggest teams in Europe all wanted to leave the CL and set up their own league.

If the CL was a commercial success, there’s no way everyone would want to leave.

So because England won the WC in 1966, should it not count. Let’s face it the whole competition has changed format since then, so surely Englands win also counts for nothing ??

Of course they could. Let's say every team makes £50 million it's a commercial success. But if they could see a way to make £80 million they would want to take it

WUM and wrong.
1968 Man Utd beat Benfica 4 - 1 to become the first English club to win the European Cup after Celtic became the first British club to do so the year before beating Inter 2 - 1.

This post represent the ignorance of people that have no critical thinking or individual thoughts. Yeah lets rewrite history and forget everything behind. It doesn't matter! And there are some people that even argue that Champions League is unsuccessful. Do you even read the numbers before writing nonsense? You should start to live outside the social networks! Your brains are fully contaminated with ideas that are not real!

Explains why Arsenal try their hardest to qualify for the CL places each season. The club you support obviously don’t agree
