I watched these against Essex 2nd XI last week and they were in all kinds of trouble early doors in their first innings against Jamal Richards.
Possibly another for broad....been reviewed.
Overturned but he then edged the next ball just short of slip. They're still deep in the mire as Potts is bowling well at the other end. Will they get some relief when Tongue comes on or will he rip through the middle order? I expect them to go after Leach so expect the seamers to stay on until maybe the final over where we get the customary over of spin.

Yeah I think they'd have really struggled against Cook, Porter, Snater, Bracewell and Harmer. Would have liked to have seen that but oh well. I did enjoy watching Das bat.

It was a very good innings carried forward to the T20. The way our first team are batting this year Das could well break into that when the Championship cricket returns.
I'm sure Sandy is salivating over the Ireland run rate being below 3.

Players getting out to nonsense one day shots though rather than batting like boycott. The fools.
One of the downsides to having Bairstow keeping, is that he loves reviewing everything. He always reviews when batting even if plumb. If that transfers into his advice to Stokes when keeping, we could lose a lot of reviews this summer.
Another one gone and a second for Leach. The more experienced guys doing the damage so far with 6 wickets down with 4 for Broad. Maybe one more over for Broad before giving Potts a chance to go through the tail. I guess it make sense to keep Leach on but it might be tempting to get Tongue back on to see if he can get a wicket or 2.

Good point, Foakes is usually pretty spot on but that's another aspect of what he brings that won't be thought about. There won't really be any stats on it either because there's a committee but it would be interesting to know how many reviews have failed and how many have been successfully overturned with both as keeper.
Don't like the short stuff here from Potts and Tongue. Both need to be going fuller.
Any sign of Sandy Clown to tell us batting isn't a thing anymore?

Weird they have gone with that anyway, given most of Potts success last year came from him relentlessly attacking the stumps.

It's definitely a plan from Stokes
Can't really complain about Stokes' plans to be fair. He changes it up if its not working and makes things happen quite frequently.

I think Stokes is deliberately having them bowl this way. I think he wants Ireland to get more runs.
I know it's a plan and deliberate. I just dont like it
Presumably he wants to see how they go because Stokes will turn to it now and again during the Ashes. I don't mind the idea of throwing in a short ball per over so they know one is coming but doing it every ball gets rid of the surprise factor and also means the bowler tires quicker.

Of course, he's a very good thinker and can clearly read the game better than I can. I know he doesn't mind giving away runs quickly and if it draws a mistake and we get a wicket even if it costs 40 runs in 8/9 overs then he will take it rather than bowling 8/9 overs for no wicket at the cost of 25
Who's the back up spinner behind Leech, Root this summer ? haven't watched any county cricket
I was listening to an interview with Stokes earlier and he said that one of his main things is to not overly plan anything before a game. Instead just to read the situation and react to it. Its why we see all these random fielding positions and approaches, he is just reacting to what he sees.

Maybe Rehan Ahmed as he toured with them over the winter. I think they will either play Leech or go with an all seam attack with Root filling in each test personally. Depends on the wicket and forecast.

Yep, he moves the field around so often and his hunch more often than not is absolutely spot on. He's a maverick of a captain for sure and won't give a fack if anyone questions what he's doing because the players certainly don't.
