Funny that we cry about human rights when it suits us.
We're currently in a position people can't heat their homes, work yet need food banks, live in a home free of deadly mould, the middle and working class are becoming poorer and poorer, the BoE care only about banks profiting, we've got the blood of millions from Afghan and Iraq on our hands, we voted to leave the EU.
The ME have cultural issues, they're ran by some very rich and oppressive regimes. However we also live in a system designed to ensure employees can't really prosper.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
This is abject, disingenuous BS.
You consistently leap to the defence of a Tory government that has been dismantling human rights and mechanisms of democratic accountability and presiding over a transfer of wealth from poorer to richer people through austerity and deregulation. The members of this forum who are most uncomfortable with ownership by an authoritarian state are largely the ones who are most opposed to both the rising inequality you alluded to and the growing authoritarianism of the Western political right. You are instinctively sympathetic to authoritarians and hard-right economic policies. (But no, you're not a Tory!)
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Ok so he posted a well reasoned post and you made it personal with the normal identity stuff.
Somehow I doubt he constantly leaps to the defence of a Tory government, but you probably leap on him if he doesn't follow the black and white good and bad narrative you've created.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Pretty much. I criticise the state of the country and that makes me a Tory
----------------------------------------------------------------------
No, your advocacy for socially conservative and low tax policies makes you a Tory.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Not at all. I think people are entitled to the fundamentals of living; food, heating, a home. I’m also appalled at the lack of opportunity for children from poorer families.
Just because I disagree that income tax thresholds don’t allow for employees to prosper doesn’t make me a Tory.
Why should somebody earning above £50k pay 40% of their income to taxes when others get everything for free?
I’m all for a fairer tax system, but it should be targeting the absurdly rich, not squeezing hard working middle class. The gap between the middle class and those on state benefits is shrinking quickly, whilst the gap between the middle and rich is growing ever further.
Why should somebody earning above £50k pay 40% of their income to taxes when others get everything for free?

Nobody gets anything for free. The more you derive or extract from society the more tax you have to pay.
I’m all for a fairer tax system, but it should be targeting the absurdly rich, not squeezing hard working middle class.

Agreed. You should blame the Tories for that. The left want to tax the super rich while Tories want to make them even richer and instead squeeze the lower and middle classes.

When you throw out stupid statements like "nobody gets anything for free" or "the wheel was discovered" it's clear that you're talking out of your backside and a single counterexample can cut through the fact you haven't had the discipline or environment to develop critical thinking skills.

It isn't nonsense. Plenty of people who can work, choose not to because it either doesn't make financial sense or they just don't want/ need to.
£50k now isn't what it used to be when the 40% threshold was put in place. It's pretty standard to expect to be earning that sum by your mid 30's these days, it essentially stops your personal financial progression and the only alternative is to start your own business to avoid such taxes.
Nobody gets everything for free, they get the minimum.
You pay more tax as you get richer because it's fair.

Like many on here you're just full of bluster. All smoke and mirrors and big talk but no actual substance of thought behind what you write.
When you throw out stupid statements like "nobody gets anything for free" or "the wheel was discovered" it's clear that you're talking out of your backside and a single counterexample can cut through the fact you haven't had the discipline or environment to develop critical thinking skills.
I'll leave you to carry on talking about how great you are while demonstrating the opposite.

Why should somebody earning above £50k pay 40% of their income to taxes when others get everything for free?
=====
Nobody gets anything for free. The more you derive or extract from society the more tax you have to pay.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
As someone who grew up with a parent who worked for the then DSS you are talking out of your backside.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
More nonsense from you which you dont even bother to explain the rationale behind because you know its nonsense you can't back up.
Shut it! Boy.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It isn't nonsense.

It take away a lot of life's stresses and allows you the freedom to pay for experiences and opportunities for you and your family.

No amount of money will ease your stress...
What percentage of people sleep happily in Dorchester hotel compared to an ordinary hotel in Kensington?

I know I’m a lot less stressed not worrying about paying my bills, in comparison to 10 years ago going month to month with nothing to spare.
Money isn’t everything (or even close), but life’s a lot easier if you have surplus cash, at least in my experience.

Also, a lot of people can’t afford the hotel in Kensington never mind the Dorchester.
