McGregor is a grade A tw at Easily the worst person to ever come out of this country
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Agreed, I was a fan in his early days as I suspected it was all a persona but he's showed his true colours since.

This accusation seems a little farfetched though.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeah maybe the persona has become the person?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Most likely he was always that way but money and status makes it easier for people to get away with poor behaviour.

He’s a dirtbag. Always was always will be
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Just to clarify I don’t begrudge him his money or success, fair play to him

He’s just an awful human being

I've explained that my generalisation referred to a general phenomenon and not your comment specifically. You took it that way, and we can debate whether it was reasonable for you to do so in the first place, but you now know that I was talking about a phenomenon in the wider culture and about more than one poster on this thread.

As to the "facts as they are known", both Rosso and I have responded in depth as to why we don't consider the pursuit of civil damages as damning evidence against the accuser. You have indeed "done your research" and thought about the evidence, and I simply don't think the evidence available to you is sufficient to conclude that the alleged victim is making the story up.

As to your comment "That doesn’t mean I’m victim blaming, toxically masculine, misogynist, watch & like Andrew Tate, a bigot, or [insert other denigrating language]" - as far as I can see, neither Rosso nor I suggested these things about you. And this really exemplifies my point about how difficult it is to talk about those harmful tropes that exist in our shared culture without eliciting extremely defensive reactions.

You, RR, and Rosso, both took issue with the fact that I claimed that the alleged victim had sought pecuniary reimbursement in lieu of prosecution.

Rosso had stated that he was sceptical of that, because she had filed a police report, and to do so would be - in his mind - “very strange”.

He also then included a statement - shockingly without irony - from Tarantino that (rather ironically) warned against making definitive statements, referring to my claim about the victim pursuing fiscal settlement.

You, RR, then piggy-backed off of that comment to make a broader condemnation about men jumping to the “gold digger” conclusion at the first instance of an accusation of rape.

As has been unequivocally evidenced, the victim - via her attorney - has indeed sought fiscal settlement in lieu of persecution.

How did I know this? Because I did some basic research prior to opining and drew my conclusions from the facts presented to me, as opposed to my own assumptions, biases, and heuristics.

I am not unequivocally stating that McGregor hasn’t committed rape - in fact, I’ve stated that given the character of the man since his rise to super-stardom, it wouldn’t surprise me - but I am stating that the facts of this particular accusation as they have been presented certainly raise more than a couple of ambiguities, which are severely exacerbated by the fact that it has come to fruition that the victim is indeed seeking fiscal reimbursement.

That doesn’t mean I’m victim blaming, toxically masculine, misogynist, watch & like Andrew Tate, a bigot, or [insert other denigrating language], it is as simple as it ostensibly seems: I’ve read up on the case and the facts as they are currently presented have a material air of non-credibility surrounding them, the most profound of which is this pursuit of pecuniary settlement in lieu of prosecution.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
"Rosso... also then included a statement - shockingly without irony - from Tarantino that (rather ironically) warned against making definitive statements, referring to my claim about the victim pursuing fiscal settlement."

1. I did not refer to your claim when quoting Tarantino. I wrote:

"People [signifying a general statement] might be wise to remind themselves of Tarantino’s words before commenting on this matter [again signifying a general statement]"

2. Please show where I've made a declarative statement in that post, because I'd have needed to do so for any irony to be present.

I've offered *an opinion* that it would be strange to file a criminal report if "she doesn’t want to press charges, but does want an out-of-court settlement". I haven't made any declarative statement on the matter either way.

Also, could I ask if you would please direct us to any quote from the alleged victim's lawyer amounting to "she doesn’t want to press charges, but does want an out-of-court settlement".

The only comment from the lawyer I have read on this specific aspect of the matter is taken from one of the letters supposedly seen and quoted by the press, in which it is claimed that the lawyer wrote:

'...the client would discuss "reasonable settlement offers" before June 12 or else proceed with litigation..."

That statement would not equate to "she doesn’t want to press charges, but does want an out-of-court settlement," rather that the alleged victim would consider closing any legal proceedings within her control (avoiding all that those would entail for the alleged victim) if a settlement offer deemed acceptable to her might be discussed.

The difference may be subtle, but it is important.

May I ask, then, RR, why you brought up the “general” point about men blaming “gold diggers”, if not in direct reference to my comment?

Rosso had clipped my comment to just the part about an out-of-court settlement, stating why he thought that would be “very strange” and you directly replied to that comment. It would have been quite a bizarre thing to comment if not in direct reference to mine, wouldn’t you agree?

The implication is then that you have tarred me with the brush that I am ‘one of those men’ who claims women are “gold diggers” when they accuse a man of rape.

That’s bringing into question my character in an extremely denigrating sense and is quite clearly something I’m going to vehemently defend myself over, particularly when my comment was founded upon evidence, and not just general speculation and scepticism.

Why don't you just block him and move on?

Because he is clealry a wind up, and derails threads.

Ahh the good old jump to conlusions and sentence without one iota of proof.

I think, and this is as controversion a take as they come, that someone as handsome (haha gay statement but simply a fact) and rich and famous and lets face it smart, as McGregor is not going to rape someone when he could get most women
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Handsome, rich and famous men never commit rape? Seriously?

Holy fack, this facking place gets worse every day

Crazy how many people trot out this line.

On one part I find it hard to believe a guy as rich and we'll known as he is needs to force himself onto women, especially when he has paid off strippers he's impregnated already. In this day and age I'm sure there's plenty of clout chasing stupid women who would love to 5hag him

Also a huge group that would love to be in that situation to fleece him too with allegations, as lots of celebs and footballers have found before.

On the other hand, Connor ego is out of control and he is clearly juiced up to the nines. Sort of guy who spends ten minutes a day talking to himself in the mirror calling himself THE alpha male and champagne constantly.

Wouldn't out it past him just cos of how stupid it would be. This is a guy that flew from one side if the world to the other to throw a chair through the window of a minibus full of UFC fighters, including one that destroyed him 😂

Just from a PR perspective, whether it's true or not Dan must be sick of this 5hit. He must've warned him 1000 times about not putting himself in situations where this can even happen but Connor must have a brain the size of a peanut.

We have another one!

Rape isn't about not being able to get laid. It is about power.

I can see why you got the impression that my broad statement referred to you in particular, though I think (indicated by use of "always" and "many men" ) there were clues in the text to indicate that I was not attacking you directly. Why you're still pursuing this grievance when I've already clarified the point I don't understand. Moreover, pursuing it as though you have been characterised as an Andrew Tate-style misogynist, which no one has implied.

That said, as I've also explained above, I do agree with Rosso that you're wrong to conclude from what we know about the settlement that the accuser is unreliable.
