its big, the biggest of its type. Most similar to it are smaller. its a submersible not a submarine, its piloted by a logitech pad, it can go down as far approx 13,000 ft.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
so, it's still unregulated, not a PS controller it's logitech, a bit bigger, and can go further than i said,...but the main points remain.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
unregulated is normal, its an experimental craft, it had to be to do what its doing, again made very clear. Oceangate have many other crafts that are regulated.

Its not tiny for what it is , its actually huge. 100oft and 13000ft is quite a discrepancy. Its piloted not controlled with a pad very different terms indeed.

and again its normal for crafts and things like this to be controlled with game pads.

US army use Xbox pads to fly and control predator missile drones

One of the best/darkest comments I saw tonight was ‘what if they found MH370 whilst looking for the sub?’

fair enough, but to me, it still sounds potentially so so dangerous that you couldn't pay me to go down there.

oh its extremely dangerous!! but this was made very clear to those going. The waiver form is mental and is pretty much a 100 ways to die form.

Im just a little tired of the agenda from certain areas to put this down to being a shoddy wee thing, ill prepared or somehow a risk the passengers were not fully aware of.

Not sure it it was this thread but the interview with the Simpsons writer that did this very trip on that very sub last year (his wife was booked to be on this one but got covid) showed that they are aware how dangerous it is. His wife still said that even if they dont survive she will still book up to go next year if she can, the husband said he would need to think about it. So that shows you the mentality of the people wanting to do it.

The news would have you believe the submersible was made by an eccentric inventor in his home garage with parts of old radio's, a shed door, a few bolts from an kids playhouse, an old oil storage tank and the window is perspex from a disused bus shelter.

And they would only be half wrong.

You could start up loads of conspiracy theories on this.

Take into consideration this is an area patrolled by US Navy Submarines and Ruskie ones.

still nowhere near the depths Titan is at .... think the deepest they can get to is about 1000-3000ft at the very most depending on the vessel. titan is about 13,000 ft deep

I don't think the conspiracy theory would be they are all chilling out 13000ft down...

no but I think they would have a hard time destroying a vessel over 10,000 ft deeper than them

What if it didn't destroy it over 10000ft deeper... 😱

You are not that well versed on conspiracy theories are you 😂

Not sure cos they probably in international waters but a good outcome might be a ban on all Titanic tourism.

Probably only a matter of time before same thing happens with space tourism.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
yeah no one has any jurisdiction out there.

I dont see the problem with ... people die on Everest and K2 all the time, bit no calls to to ban that ?

they knew the risks, it was very clear.

Seen an interview with one of the Simpsons writers who did the same trip on that sub last year, his wife was booked up to go this trip but got covid. He wanted to go again.

When asked if they would go again if they didnt survive the wife said absolutely the husband said he would need to think about it. So safety and risk is made very clear to them.

The wife said that when her husband went down last year the time he was away she was petrified and worried so yeah they know what they are getting into.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Only caveat I’d say to that is the search and rescue operation for this is vastly more expensive for this than what happens when a climber goes missing on everest or k2.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
they dont tend to send rescue services for the dead i dont think?

I do agree that stuff like this should be a privatised rescue or at least fund the company/organisation doing the rescue?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

No, they just leave them there. Be interesting to know how much they’ve spent on this particular one.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
The story last month of the sherpa carrying the half dead guy down on his back was amazing.

And yes, there has been calls to stop Everest expeditions - guys needing rescue, guys queuing for the top, tons if discarded waste turning it into Gallowgate after a league win lookalikey.
