Drivers (ASLEF) haven’t had a pay rise for 4 years. Guards, station staff and cleaners (RMT) probably have. Can’t really call them greedy though

Ah, got you.
The articles I mentioned a percentage of staff and if it's guards, station staff and cleaners who haven't then yes; they fully deserve a decent increase.
Can't the unions separate them out as an especially deserving class of worker>
It's never seemed right to me that across the board wage increases should be applied in any event. I certainly haven't practiced it in my career.
Ignore all that.
Anyone who hasn't had an increase in 4 years is a deserving case for addressing, but the point about splitting away those most harshly treated should apply

You talk as if they are not being offered anything, they are, for last year and this one.
SO to say no pay rise in 4 years is wrong becuase they got one in 2019. So its 3 years and are being given one back dated for last year, so its 2 years. So in reality they got nothing over the "pandemic years" which is much the same as many sectors .
Its all spin and when you look at their wages over 10 years they have gone, on average, from low £40s to nearly £60k for train drivers.

Must be awful to have been forced into that job and have no other options at all. Remember the halcyon days when you had a choice.
