Lets keep signing new cbs, attacking players, midfielders, let's keep doing that, it's bound to work eventually!

2016 : Eric Bailly, Phil Jones, Marcos Rojo, Chris Smalling, Daley Blind, Luke Shaw

2023 : Varane, Lindelof, Martinez, Harry Maguire, Johnny Evans

Fellaini, Schneiderlin, Fred, McTominay, Mount

Let's just keep signing junk and maybe one of them will stick at some point in the next 15 years lol

There's a few of those not junk. Let's start with Shaw, Varane and Martinez

Looking forward to next matches
Would anyone be against integrating Bailly back to the team during the international break.
Lindelof injured
Martinez injured
Evans is past it.
Would have Bailly and Maguire (no love lost between those two)

I would be very against Bailly coming back. He's a total liability. More likely to injure himself or a team mate than he is to contribute something positive on the pitch.

Lack of quality. We just don't have enough

I think I mean to say, we've had 10 years of 'lets sign another cb' or whatever. It doesn't work if there's no plan in place.

Glazers need to go, then the directors and all the background people need to go, then the likes of Harry Maguire can go and then competent back ground people can use their competency to sign a competent player.

At the moment we have non competent back ground people deciding to make stupid signings. Fellaini, Di Maria, Fred, Maguire

It starts at the top, get rid of them and then the right football decisions will be made

Rice left unmarked and scored a deflected goal which Onana probably should have saved, then got hit on counter as we had to push for equaliser
Arsenal never really troubled us too much beforehand, maybe a bit better decision making from Rashford on the few occasions we got in their box and we may have won
We weren’t great but 3-1 flattered them

Johny Evans is the alternative except we promote from the u21. We already sold Mengi as well

The only one I can say is not junk is Luke Shaw. Lots of hype around Varane, but one he's always injured, and 2, when was the last time we beat a big PL club away from home?

Ok what about Harry Maguire or Bailly?

I would say what went wrong for your lot is Martial was pointless (you have a replacement)
Arsenal didn't fall for the trap so you ended up passing around the back a lot (also meant we were very passive)
Bruno was totally anonymous.
Losing both CBs didn't help at the end.

If you take out that minute of madness in the first half and the added time in the second, 0-0 would have been a fair reflection of the game overall. Your goal sparked us into a braver approached that ended a minute later and it went back to nothingness from both. Equally, the disallowed goal seemed to spark a bit of belief in us.

Team with better players wins football game at home.

You can't go to one of the biggest teams with the amount of injuries we had and get away with it really. To finish the game with 3 of our best back 4 out is a joke.

Probably anyone that hasn’t been living under a rock since 2016.

To be fair, Bailly himself could have been living under a rock most of the time since 2016, for all we've seen of him.

Interestingly, he’d also struggle to start for Gibraltar.

I'm surprised more wasn't made of the Gabriel/Højlund penalty incident. As much of a penalty for me as the overturned Havertz one. You cannot defend with your arms like that.

posted on 3/9/23

It’s weird how ‘contact’ in the box is normalised when it comes to touching someone’s legs, but defenders wrestling and pulling attackers isn’t. More often than not, the latter impedes an attacker more than the former. Not that I think we should have had a pen.

It's a free kick anywhere else on the pitch.

It wasn't just that he had his arm across him; he was pulling him back with it to the extent that they both went down. Hard to see why it wasn't given really.

We also now have another sideshow about to play out in public, it never rains

Didn't think there was anything wrong with our midfield set up at all today. The big different with today's game versus our previous games (except Forest really), was that the distances between our players out of possession was better - we were way more compact and closer to together - and from that tighter shape we either sat off when necessary or presses and squeezed higher as a unit. There's no great secret to defending well out of possession - stay compact and move as tight unit. We did that very well throughout most of the game. It also goes to show that in this sense, it's the collective rather than the individual that is important. Eriksen was "ran through" like many accuse of him of being liable to because we were tight as a unit. It's very hard to play through teams that are compact and disciplined. The problem we've seen in the 4-3-3 high press is that our distances are all wrong and when we get bypassed, there's way too much space for the opposition.

Where we were massively lacking today was both the ability to turn our passing around the back (which was very good) into line-breaking passes into midfield and/or the forwards. The other problem was that when we did get the ball into midfielders, or we won the ball back, we'd immediately give possession back - often at the very first attempt of a pass. It meant we rarely had a sustained spell of possession and it becomes really hard to both manage the game or make any chances to score goals. Other than the one we did score, I don't really remember us coming close or forcing their GK into making any saves.

He is much better than Maguire and the terrible Lindelof.
