For spurs it’d have been (if it’s of any interest):

Royal Tanganga Dier Porro
----------------------------------------------------------------------
That's not that bad tbh

I am surprised, I thought it’d be worse

Why did Martinez go off?

And how depressing is it that after all the money we have spent on transfers, we end up with a back line of
Awb Maguire Evans dalot

Just......... Wow.. it is quite possibly the worst back 4 in the PL.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
There's far far too much being made of that. Name me Arsenal's 5th and choice centre back. How about Liverpool's or Chelsea's? None of them would be great. It's not a representative United defensive line up, so why act like this is our first choice or likely to be a regular occurrence? Keep seeing this and it makes no sense
----------------------------------------------------------------------
We would have brought on Tomiyasu and Kiwior which I think is better than Evans and Maguire
----------------------------------------------------------------------
That is very debatable tbh
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I don't think it is

The Utd backline if it was the equivalent for Arsenal (due to injuries) would’ve ended up something like:

Soares Tomiyasu Kiwior White
----------------------------------------------------------------------
And that's horribly bad. Not that it's a willy swinging contest. The point is that this is being used as a stick to beat United with. When having an injury crisis at the back means you're going to have to field a makeshift back line. I just find it confusing.

If people want to criticise the squad in general for what we've spent, that's a different matter and would be valid tbf
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The point wasn't about having an injury crisis.
The point was that awb and dalot are frequent players, and both of them wouldn't get in any other top 4 club.

The other point was Maguire and Evans also wouldn't get in any other top 4 club, yet ETH is happy with them both coming on against arsenal at the Emirates. Absolute suicide.

I've just watched the rice goal as well, what the fk were Maguire and evans doing? Maguire is too busy blaming someone else, no idea what he was shouting at but he left a gaping wide gap for rice to shoot at the goal, same as Evans.

Not entirely Evans fault either for the third, but he's playing jesus onside.
United are pushing up high, with a backline of Maguire and Evans? Da fack?

I think the club needs to invest in a great Shrink because our players are suffering from mentality issues first and foremost. That's why they can't concentrate, string two passes together, regroup etc. Or perhaps they can smoke some weed before playing so their mind is less distracted. It's time to try all scattergun approaches

Also, I assumed the reason Erik took off both your CB's was because they were both on bookings and he didn't want them getting sent off?

I didn't notice any injuries, but I didn't really look out for them tbf, so could be wrong on that.

Both had knocks. Martinez basically signalled to be substituted.
Lindelof was limping at the end

Lindelof had been unwell all week apparently. Martinez hurt his foot.

Just hope Martinez isn’t serious because that seriously derails our season. The club should’ve known Verane wouldn’t be fit all season and we’re one more injury from disaster.

Varane, Shaw and Martial are sick notes. Its the dereliction by the hierarchy that has led us not to have proper replacements for those positions

Your inability away from home is costing you big time. I still can't believe how the 2nd goal is not being absolutely slated from a United fans perspective. It's as bad as it gets IMO, allowing Rice to literally chest it down from a corner and volley. I don't even think you can blame a makeshift CB pairing on that, it's just awful organisation and commitment in injury time in a huge game.

I know you lot rate ETH, but I honestly think he is an overrated manager. I'm convinced he gets an easy ride from United fans.

You will win big games at home, no doubt. But the away results needs a plan and organisation which stems from the manager. Of course your home games do too but u think your manager is letting you down.

Where to start? The fact that United actively tried to sell and replace Maguire this summer suggests ETH was not, in fact, happy to have to deploy him in the event of an injury crisis. The fact we didn't confirm Evans' contract until the last day of the season also suggests we were waiting to see if other options would become available.

Evans failed to close down Rice, though I think there's a decent argument that he was impeded, and would have got closer had he not been. Jesus looked like he was on the halfway line when the through-ball was struck, so would have been offside regardless of Evans' positioning.

You had Maguire raising his hands for a non existent foul rather than close down on the opposition
How is it Eth fault?

Your tactics were very Moyes. So much sitting back in numbers, hundreds of passes across your back line, attacking almost entirely limited to counter attacks.

United of old used to build pressure, push teams back, keep pressure on, men in the box. Tactics looked very much like a team who have a dreadful away record desperately trying to get something out of the game.

That said your new striker looked a handful, and you'll be able to play off him more than the others and bring others into the game.

Overall though United just don't look like they have the legs or ability or desire to properly press the opposition.

Doesn't help when you have so many injuries either. Shaw Varane Mount all injured. Amrabat not signed in time. Hojlund not fit enough to start. Lindelof played but had been unwell all week. Martinez off injured.

Just not going for us right now but it will. It will click eventually like it did last season.

We’ve been using similar tactics against Arsenal away from home for about 20 years.

Youve been using similar tactics since Jose. Having watched both your north London games this season i see little difference between ETH and Ole at this stage.

Still no properly effective press, look more comfortable sitting back, passing across the back line, hitting on the counter attack, relying on individuals to do something special.

You obviously didn’t watch us under Fergie then. We’ve been doing this against Arsenal for 20 years.

What competent manager employs a 35 year old Evans as a CB at a club trying to win trophies?
He wasn't even good enough in his "prime".

Maguire and Evans were both at fault for the second goal.
Why is Maguire moving away and making the gap larger for Rice to shoot like that?
Typical rubbish from him and pretty standard stuff from Evans as well.

AWB and Dalot, no manager going for trophies would still have these two at the club either.

We took off Antony and had Maguire and Evans in defence. Playing for the draw.

I realise there were injuries too but rather have seen the SAF tactic of putting on likes of Garnacho on and keeping Antony on (who had a good game tbf).

We lost anyway but it's the sitting back and conceding that is annoying. Rather lose Gung go tbh
