I hate Fawlty Towers

You’re deluded, it’s the best comedy ever

posted on 14/9/23

Never watched an entire episode of Friends but the bits I've been exposed to have not interested me one bit.
The obvious answer is Mrs Brown's Boys, never seen a full episode of that either. Obviously the majority of reality shows as well.

Tbh, if I don't particularly like a show I don't watch it enough to "legit hate" it, I just move on. Not sure why you have exposed yourself to so much Fawlty Towers to get to that point.

Comedy generally doesn’t age well, especially sitcoms. For it’s time Fawlty Towers was great but the 80s alternative comedy scene (and probably also Derek and Clive) brought a new edge to comedy in the UK.

Have you ever tried to watch/listen to the Gooon Show, isn’t funny at all but it had 2 legit legends of comedy in Sellers and Milligan.

Mrs Brown's boys. I don't like.

Fawlty Towers I loved when it came out, but haven't seen it since.

Fawlty Towers.

Quite simply, still one of the best, funniest, most cleverly constructed sitcom ever written and performed, as agreed by most/many commentators, writers, actors and viewers spanning over almost 3 generations.

But then, everybody is entitled to their own opinion. Which I respect, Robb.

Mrs browns boys is irelands shame

Also the Big Bang Theory is the most unfunny pile of 💩ever put on TV

Can't agree with this Robb.

I can still laugh heartily at it now. Perhaps as I've got older I've learnt that I was meant to laugh at Basil's ignorance and prejudice more than I did as a kid though.

I just don't get anything about the "bo selecta" guy... It's just noise and movement, like a kid's entertainer.

As much as I dislike Fawlty Towers - it’s like our 2008 attack compared to Mrs Browns Boys.

Brooklyn 99. That Jake guy is one of the most annoying TV characters ever.

posted on 14/9/23

Bo selecta is just him wearing black face half the time with a big chin and glasses. Little Britain has dated awfully too, again a lot of black face and generally just laughing at minorities. Which is a shame because George Lucas in Shooting Stars at times was great. British comedy in general these days is pretty poor imo, can’t really think of anything I enjoy. Most comes from America, How to with John Wilson is brilliant.

Any show with an audience laughing in it is terrible. All American shows are terrible apart from Malcolm in the Middle. Unless it's a cartoon.

Anything English where the main source of comedy is meant to be them all sitting around looking confused at what's going on. That's the only thing they attempt. Apart from The Inbetweeners. That was decent.

Whatever "This Country" is, needs to be burnt to the ground.

Father Ted is good so Ireland wins.

Always watch Father Ted when I come across it channel surfing. Mental/fascinating what’s happened to Graham Linehan the past couple years. Wrote 3 genuinely great sitcoms and now is a hate filled loon. My friends went to see his stand up a few months back out of curiosity, said it was the worst comedy he’d ever seen.

If I could give minus stars this one get it.

One of the best comedy shows of all time. Absolutely hilarious. Great writing and ahead of its time.

Porridge is the most overrated for me

Agree about Partridge, best show ever, esp Knowing me Knowing you

posted on 14/9/23

Never got Partridge at all, ever. Just don't find it funny.

Absolutely Fabulous was the other one I can't stand.

Father Ted was excellent.
Also Black Books. The Young Ones. Blackadder after series 1.

Don't find Partridge funny one bit, just annoying.

I also recently rewatched the British Office and for me that has to go down as the greatest British sitcom ever. Like Maddie it never gets old.

The Office is sensational. Not just as a comedy, but as a series. It's superb, relatable and brilliantly paced.

The American version can fist itself.

Yeah the office is great, as is extras
