Have we not reached the point where we all realise people who say 'woke' are genuinely beIlends?
Anyway, go into work, find a colleague who is black and has done something excellent in their job and compare them to a gorilla for doing so in front of everyone.
See what happens.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Would a Gorilla emoji be OK for a White colleague?

Garnacho has been a little bit silly here really. I don't think it's racist but it's very naive to think people wouldn't think it is. He really needs some kind of social media training.
With Onana being from Cameroon surely a Lion would have made more sense anyway if he wanted to signify strength and being a king etc.

Does.it matter if people thought it might be.(racist) if they have since been assured it wasn't?

Pretty dim thing for him to tweet, but it's hardly crime of the century. It's similar to when Bernardo got a one match ban for tweeting about Mendy. Illustrates why player should not do their own social media.

The thing that might see him escape punishment is that the pic includes several players, not just Onana.
Hard to see how they can argue its racist to a Black person, but not a White person, without giving the vile, racist view that equates black people with monkeys, legitimacy.
He'll get between a one and three match ban probably like all the other divs who have done similar (Cavani, Bernado).

If he gets a ban I think he and the club should just accept it, make a statement on how keen they are to stamp out racism in all forms (whilst stating Garnacho was perhaps naive rather than racist) and leave it at that.

Think again. Is it possible to say racism exists without legitimising it?
If you criticise the use of using the gorilla image in reference to a black guy, you don't legitimise the view, you recognise its existence.
Whether it's misplaced or not to interpret it that way in this particular case is an entirely different matter.
Just ask yourself whether you would post a gorilla emoji on social media about your black work colleague.

Yes, both just a bit silly and not really malicious IMO.
Much like someone being sent off for a handball on the line. Just take your medicine.
If a suspension sends out a message that it's not OK to use these tropes then the sooner they go IMO.
