‘By far’
No. It was decent enough and the final was great but did it really do anything for Qatari football or the culture itself? No drinking at games really doesn’t lead itself to a good time for fans. An Australian World Cup would be such a bigger event for the country than a Saudi one.
Hardly surprising they pulled out, they baulked at hosting the much smaller Commonwealth games.

The Comm games are pointless though as it’s a silly tournament that doesn’t really attract the best in the world. Really not worth the time and money.
The World Cup is different and would bring billions to Australia but I think we pulled out as the Saudis would likely throw way too much money at the bid.

Not really the point, it's never a good look to bid for, win, win and then flake out at the last minute.
Hopefully by the Saudi will have become a bit more westernised and you’ll be able to get a pint at the game and see some tasty birds with their Bristol’s painted and hanging out, which for most are the quintessential elements of an international tournament. The Qatar WC might as well have been hosted at a bloody monastery.
Anyway, another Middle Eastern tournament in the space of 12 years which will probably have as much soul as a night out with Gordon Brittas.
Shut your mouth. People that can function on this world with alcohol and respect others cultures enjoyed it. I saw the Ghanaians singing and dancing throughout. But unlike people like you, those guys can get joy from little.

Absolutely.
We don't want to ruin the great British winter do we !
and hopefully Putin will be dead well before then as well.
It's why the 2030 WC is in Africa Europe and S.America, to clear the decks for another Middle East WC.
To hell with the fans, to hell with the environment, let's just cover all bases in 2030 so we can cash in with Saudi oil money in 2034.
FIFA are disgusting. It's corruption in plain sight.
Sick of the influence of money in football. With the world cup we see it with the finals being in the middle east every 4-8 years now. And in Europe every match is now just held a Wembley. How do we stop the likes of Saudi Arabia and England buying football? Will we ever have a tournament again not held in England or Saudi Arabia?

Don't pretend you're on some moral high horse on this one. This goes way beyond fans not being able to drink. There is one reason why these games go to Saudi and its money in FIFAs pockets. Sports washing at the highest level.
For all the unprecedented investment by Saudi this summer in football, for all the huge names playing in their domestic league, many of the club sides are attracting less than 1000 fans to their matches. That's all you need to know about Fifa's priorities. It's not about bringing football to new parts of the world. It's about the $$$$$$$$$$$$$.
Actually, I don't feel so bad for Australia or for England having to wait for a second World Cup. The developed world has monopolised the sport. World Cups are never really about legacy. Give it to West Africa. If you want legacy in the Middle East, give it to a football-mad country like Egypt or Iran.

I disagree about the Australia part there Rouge Russian. Having a World Cup here would be transformative for a sport that’s always threatening to break out of the shadows of AFL and NRL. It would really create a paradigm shift in youth sports to focus on ‘soccer’ in a way that the US for example never could quite achieve.
Saudi Arabia football stadiums going from 700 attendance a week to 60,000 a day for a whole month.
Then back to 700 a game. 😂
Football legacy = Cash grab by FIFA.

I'm certainly not anti an Australian World Cup. Australia deserves it much more than many other places that Fi$a prefer and I agree with the point about legacy. It's just that I have more sympathy for regions of the world that wouldn't even bother trying to bid for the competition because they know Fifa isn't going to give them a sniff than a first world country that has a burgeoning sports culture, great infrastructure and a history of hosting major international tournaments.
PL fans moaning about oil money ruining football. Lol.
Said this last Time... they should extend it to 64 teams, have 16 teams (4 groups) in the Americas, 16 in Europe, 16 in Asia and 16 in Africa.
Then the winners of each section meet in a final stage
From a fan point of view it will be non stop football 24/7 during the group stage 😀
Nice to have a World Cup awarded to a country in a decent time zone.
It's already hard enough having to wake up at 4 a.m. to watch Kiwi/Australian club rugby.
