Newcastle going for Jose would contradict everything they've done since they took over. They've been very smart in investing in personnel who are a good fit rather than in big names. I'd be amazed (and delighted) if they went down that road.

Given the current state of affairs, I can see Barcelona going for Michel, the Girona manager. They already had a good season last year, what they've achieved thus far this year is bloody outrageous.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Doesn’t have Barca DNA.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Xavi was DNA-max. I think they might just be ready for a change.

It would be fun if there was a forced Brexity switch away from attracting the top foreign managers in the PL. Who wins the PL in this scenario? Bearing in mind an English manager has never won the English PL.
Steven Gerrard's Liverpool
Michael Carrick's Man U
John Terry's Chelsea
Martin Keown's Arsenal
Wayne Rooney's Everton
Michael Johnson's Man City
Jermaine Defoe's Hotspurs
Gareth Barry's Villa
James Milner's Leeds
Alan Shearer's Newcastle
An English legend from each club but who wins the league?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Could just see James Milner when asked saying,
Badges, I don't need no stinking badges.

Barcelona's problems run much deeper than Xavi. He won them the league last season. Their recruitment and squad management over many years look comparable to United's in short-termism, and their financial management has been reckless. Throw in a few key injuries and chickens come home to roost pretty quickly.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
If I was a chicken then by far the most responsible thing to do, if I were injured, would be to come home to roost, and quickly. To imply otherwise is ridiculous

I'll confess I'm disappointed as I was hoping for more responses to my 'Thomas Frank to Liverpool' suggestion. Both serious and substantive ones, and upset Scousers.

I think (or at least I would hope) that Thomas Frank has gathered a fair amount of respect and admiration over the last 3 seasons. Which might be why nobody is jumping up and down.
Having watched Brentford a fair few times over during Frank's tenure (family connections to Brentford), I can kind of see why it might feel like a reasonable fit. He's attacking, presses high, is quick through midfield (putting it politely), uses widith from FB. Some similarities there. But there's little attempt to control the game, dictate the pace. It's often counter attacking because of the quality of opposition faced, it's been effective but is that a way of playing that will be possible with Liverpool? Seems unlikely.
Apparently he is absolutely meticulous though and very personable. We were talking above about the 'step-up' that Alonso would face but at least he knows what it is to be at a big club, to face expectation. I think Frank needs a stepping stone before landing a big job. I thought he might have been in the running for Brighton when Potter left but there's bad blood at boardroom level between the clubs apparently. Someone like WH when they finally decide to part with Moyes would be a good step.
Frank is a good shout but i think would be a tough sell to the fans. There will be some snobbery towards such an appointment, but like there was with Ange at Spurs.
Yeah but we’d have good reason

I don't have any reason to believe Alonso would struggle to adjust to Liverpool, and he seems a very strong candidate if he thinks the timing is right. But I would say that having an ability to communicate - not just information, but emotion - can be a very powerful tool for a coach. No one has that more than Klopp. Postecoglou has it (and that immediately destroyed any potential snobbery about bringing in someone who had "only" coached at Celtic and in Japan). I think Thomas Frank has something of that too. Whether Xabi Alonso does, I couldn't really say, because I haven't heard him talking much since his playing days.
As for tactical differences, it's a fair question to ask whether Frank's methods would translate. I wouldn't assume that he has one way of playing and would set up a Liverpool side to play the way Brentford did, but an ability to come up with an approach that would work for a big club is of course untested.
I like Frank and Ange. Both speak very well indeed too, I like the cut of their jib.
Massive step up for either though and really, for me, Alonso’s playing record, who he has worked under and connection to Liverpool swing it.
You’d think Spurs have the Australian Pep the way they go on, rather than the Australian Brendan Rodgers.

I’m not sure it’s snobbery and I’m not sure it’s comparable to Ange at Spurs. He had at least faced expectation with Celtic, you could see how he set a team up to take the game to the opposition. To dominate them when they’re expected to win almost every game. Spurs had a much, much better idea of what they would be getting. Sure, the quality of league is very different but you knew how he would go about winning.
Any idea how Frank would set up a team when they’re expected to win most games? I don’t. He’s not had to.
Let's go for Herve Renard. At least if he's struggling as manager he'll look smooth doing it.

Police in Thailand have warned Liverpool fans not to fall for online scammers impersonating Bayer Leverkusen head coach Xabi Alonso.
In the scam, Alonso is confirming via his Instagram account that he will be taking over from Klopp as Liverpool coach but needs donations of 300 baht (€7.85) to help pay for a plane ticket to the English city.
"I am Xabi Alonso, I will be in charge of Liverpool next season, but I am short of money for my flights to Liverpool," reads the message, written in Thai.
