Tricky match this one. Can we find a key to unlock well packed and well organised defences, sitting on the edge of their own penalty area? As you rightly say, an early goal will make a huge difference to the complexion of the match.
Confidence should be high following an excellent away performance and victory in London, albeit only against a woeful Spurs
BTW, interesting stat I read elsewhere... if our home and away results against Spurs had been replicated against the other 18 teams in the division, we would now be 15 points clear at the top!!
So what you're saying is: if we'd won every game we'd be top, no sh!t Sherlock.
Will miss this one as i head out the LRGV in Texas
Kind of game we struggle with, hopefully not this time.
Our forward line is ideally suited to the counter attacking game. And not so suited to games when we have most of the ball. So I expect the Blades to make it difficult for us. But with their confidence at rock bottom and ours pretty high, there’ll surely only be one result. Kind of game where it would be helpful for Hwang to be popping up in the right place and knocking in a simple goal or two
Going for a tense 2-1 to us.
One day we will put one of these bottom teams to the sword, probably not this one though.

I see that Paul Bradshaw has died, only 67.
He was a great keeper and I saw him many times in the 70/80 s
RIP.

Sad news that about Bradshaw, was a record signing for a keeper as I recall when we bought him from Blackburn. Was a bit of a hero of mine as a kid who often got stuck in goal because he rubbish in any other position 😁 yet I didn't actually get to see him play very often, Mick Kearns always seemed to be playing on the rare occasions I got to games as a nipper.
Think we should play Tommy Doyle for this one. We should have a lot of the ball, so this is a game that is suited to him. Means we need to drop one of Gomes or Lemina, which seems harsh but I don't think you need both for this type of game.
I suppose 'drop' is the wrong term. Its about rotating based on strengths and keeping everyone fresh. I feel that Doyle and Sarabia are key to us playing when we have a lot of the ball against a team that could low block though.
Think we can say with absolute confidence that Gomes and Lemina will start in central midfield.
What we need to see is both Semedo and RAN playing high up the pitch and using the full width.
Could we play Doyle behind Neto and Hwang and leave out Sarabia?
Certainly highlights just how much we miss Cunha, and how much we desperately (still) need a proper nine.
Personally, I think Heang has shown himself to be a proper number 9.
Don't get me hwong, I really like Hwang and recognise his value to the team.
My real concerns and reservations are due to wolfie's "jury" still being out on him? Difficult to be enthusiastic about a player that wouldn't even be his starting eleven.
It is a teaser for GON to set up a team excellent on counter attacking in a match where we will likely dominate the ball but come up against a packed defence. Sheffield have conceded 21 goals in their last six games and simply must improve on that defensively to stand a chance of getting more points. So they will pack their defensive lines and hope to nick a goal from occasional attacks. Their one decent result recently came at Luton where they had only 25% possession and only 3 shots but won 3-1.
Wolves only had 29% possession at Spurs but we had 12 shots and had more shots on target than Spurs. That’s the kind of game our attacking team are highly suited to but the game against the Blades will be totally different.
I’m not sure changing personnel will help us too much. I think it’s more about getting our players to play further up the pitch, particularly Semedo, Lemina, Gomes and Ait Nouri.
Spangles, your last paragraph sums up my thoughts exactly.
I don't think it is just about getting players to play further up the pitch. It's also about having players who can break lines and shift possession quickly in a shortened pitch when you play against teams in a low block.
Doyle is our best midfielder at doing that. Sarabia is our most creative passer in the final third. Those two are assets in this type of game and we would be foolish not to use them.
We also have 3 games in 6 days this week with the latter two being against teams we would expect have more possession than us. We have to rotate at some point and this is the game most suited to Doyle's skill set.

I don’t believe we have to play the same team because they won a he last match,

How about leaving out either Dawson or Toti, for 4 at the back, Mario central tith Gomes & Doyle as the midfield 2 leaving space for Sarabia to stay in there as a 10 & weave his magic - so basically a 4-1-2-3 which still gives both full backs licence to get forward

I would like to see this, however every time we try a four we concede goals
Perhaps WO, but this might be the game to try it. Sheffield averaging less than a goal per game, 22 in all (2 against us), so even if they score then we need to just score more. Simples.
I was thinking the same against these, back four, play Lemina, Gomes and Doyle.
That’s settled then.
