Yes. Why is it more unthinkable that Casemiro would be selected to play at 90% of his capacity because he's managing an injury, than selecting him to play because that level is his ceiling now? Either way, he's playing with those limitations, and you have to conclude ETH regards him as a better option than alternatives (which doesn't say much for the chances we keep Amrabat beyond the summer). Players are playing through injury all the time. That seems pretty plausible to me. Again, I don't see why permanently-slow-Casemiro is a more acceptable proposition than slightly-injured-and-therefore-slower-than-usual-Casemiro.

You're making out that playing through a bit of an injury would be some kind of cloak and dagger conspiracy. It's been discussed on this forum and widely in the sports media that it's a very widespread phenomenon. Some even go as far as to say that most players have some niggling issue most of the time. We're also in a situation where huge swathes of our squad have been out injured for extended periods - it's reasonable to conclude that lots of those players have been playing while managing injuries, rather than them always being either 100% fit or totally unable to play.
Of course all of this speculation, and I've never claimed otherwise. It's obvious that Casemiro isn't in his physical prime. But we've also seen him move in the last couple of matches significantly worse than his general, concerning level over this season as a whole. That leads me to suspect he is playing within himself a bit to avoid aggravating an injury. It's just a hypothesis.
Of course, I don't have the privileged view of a season-ticket holder, which would enable me to look inside the soul of a player and understand that the multiple-CL winner and the player who helped drive our improved mental strength last season is in fact a 'lazy twаt'.
For me, I don't question what Casemiro has done at Real Madrid or even how good he was for us last season - but yesterday he was poor for us. And generally has been all season.

I don't accept it's JUST poor coaching, may well be a factor but simple passes are basics of the game, you have to do what Casemiro did yesterday deliberately. He is not fit, he can barely run, he can barely tackle or pass. How is he better than what Amrabat or McT offer? His selection is sadly on ETH.

I haven't missed a game
The thing with Fred is that we should not be missing him, but we are when it comes to winning the ball higher up the pitch and having some energy in the midfield.
On Casemiro, my guess is that ETH is playing him in the hope of him getting back into the form of last year.
The shocking truth is he have not addressed our midfield properly since the SAF days and even by then the midfield two was starting to become obsolete.
The unfortunate fact is that all of the midfield options we have are flawed. McTominay doesn't have the brain of a DM when it comes to closing space, nor the skill set to contribute to build-up and possession from deep. Amrabat is a better profile for that role but for whatever reason hasn't applied his Fiorentina/Morocco level to the PL and to the much more challenging brief of this very chaotic game plan. Mount is at his best leading a press rather than playing in a double pivot, and it looks like we're limiting his minutes as he returns from effectively a season-long injury. Casemiro has never had a very reliable passer, particularly under pressure, but he's probably no worse than the alternatives from that point of view, but he does have the ability to hit excellent early long balls when receiving facing forward, unlike McT/Amrabat, which is critical to our counterattacking threat. He's obviously less mobile than the other two right now, but he does have more nous as to which spaces to occupy, where to anticipate danger. I wouldn't say it's obviously the right choice to play him, but I don't think any of the alternatives are obviously correct choices either.

Yeah I agree. He’s a passenger for large parts of the game, but shows some real class and people get carried away. Fred, for all his flaws, wasn’t a passenger in midfield and we’re weaker in that area because we let him leave.
I would say that Fred might make it a little better, but not to an extent that it would be unbelievably improved.
For that it would take a change in the whole way we play.
You could almost replace the title of this article with Anderson / Carrick / Keane (although I am sure Keane would be kicking a few backsides into shape if he were about) - it's simply more fundamental than one player and until the overall approach improves, anyone would struggle in our midfield

Fred was better than Mainoo as well, but people don’t want to admit it. We should have kept him.

Mainoo has been hyped since his breakthrough. He actually goes missing for long periods of games.
Great goal though.
Should get goal of the month/season/decade.... (There you go).
