Got to say, Jones has really done well after a nervy start. This could be a lot tighter than expected, maybe the upset is on, although still early days. I've not watched Jones that much, but he's grasping his chance

Id have been up for 17-0, but this match is actually alright now

Jones levels in it at 3-3.

Joe Davis won every one for 20 years

Yeah but there were about 4 players around back then.............

Did Joe Davis also choose who got to play?

He was world champion at snooker 15 times (unbeaten) and billiards I think 4 times, during the 20s, 30s and 40s I'm sure.

For snooker, it varied how many players entered, sometimes there were only 2 players, others a handful, but I think he would obviously have got any byes if needed, as the defending champion. But he was basically way ahead of his time, in terms of developing break-building etc.

But there was never a 'set frames format', some years it was say, first to 25, then first to 30 odd, then first to 40 odd, it just seemed to vary from year to year

I'm sure in his final title, it was played over 2 weeks or so, and first to 60 or 70 odd

Bingham clears with 79 and leads 4-3.

I meant the final itself was played over 2 or 3 weeks

Cmon Bingham, this should be 17-0

At least win with a session to spare

Lol how come you don't like Jak Jones?
======================================

I don't like his style of play. That's the first reason.

Secondly, I hate players that come out at the Crucible and ruin the tournament and then do absolutely nothing all season. Sometimes players knock out top players, that's fine and then you see them improve after that and win tournaments and a new star is born.

Selby was great after 2007, Ali Carter after 2008, Murphy took some time, but he did well after 2005, Dott did well after 2004 and so on.

Jak Jones did absolutely nothing ALL season. So, this run that he's had will not mean anything, just like last year.

If he goes on to become a top player, I will hold my hands up and say well done.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

I am in agreement with this. Jak Jones has done very little in his career, yet alone this season. He has no business being at the one Table set up, yet alone winning it.

At least the others have been to the one Table before.

72 break from Jones and he levels it at 4-4.

Don't blame Jones, blame the folk who couldn't beat him

I'm not a big fan of Bingham, indifferent to Jones, but I think I want Jones to win this semi rather than Bingham.

People are saying how little he has done in his career - that makes it more impressive for me, that he's come from nowhere, this could be the one chance he ever gets, ot it could kickstart his career to another level, but I don't mind the fact that someone has been in the right place at the right time and is doing his best to take his chance. It won't happen every year, and I wouldn't want it to, but good luck to him in this semi.

I still feel Wilson will win it though.

It never bothers me when players have done so little in their careers. Everyone knows how difficult snooker is and how competitive it is. I'm also generally someone that will support the underdog in Snooker unless of course they are playing against my favourite players or the underdog players are players I dislike.

This is like when for years Chelsea, Liverpool, ManU and Arsenal were dominating and then City had all that money. Everyone was crying a change and we got Swansea and Wigan winning the League and FA Cup. Then everyone cheered for the underdogs. Then they did absolutely nothing ever again. The big guns were back dominating the next year and nothing changed.

A Gilbert Jones final would be my preference

posted on 3/5/24

To be fair no one ever really expected Wigan and Swansea to follow it up though. Wigan beating Man City in the FA cup was amazing though and also funny as Mancini got the sack. Wigan got relegated a few days later though and haven't returned.
Anyways I like the underdog story and I never expected a player or team to follow it up and that doesn't bother me at all.

Simply because I put a bet on him, I prefer Wilson, but generally I can't stand him, so it's wierd wanting him to win.

Out of the other 3, I would prefer Jones. A Bingham Gilbert final would be my nightmare, I wouldn't really care at all in those circumstances

70 break from Kyren and he leads 5-4.

posted on 3/5/24

If Bingham wins a 2nd world title before Judd I would never hear the end of it

posted on 3/5/24

48 break from Gilbert and he's level at 5-5.

Kyren wins the frame and leads 6-5.
