Whilst Ronnie does talk garbage, if he keeps winning whilst playing half the tournaments, he will keep on doing it. Someone needs to knock him off his perch. Even if they did, he’s nearly 50 and has won everything.

Whilst I don’t agree with the way he says things, he is the greatest of all time and they don’t treat him like they treat legends from other sports. If he complains, they tell him to suck it up and call him selfish.

This is all fine, but when other countries treat him way better, it doesn’t surprise me that he would rather play their tournaments. He’s already the record holder in the UK tournaments anyway.

I’m not sure what the ref said to him last night. I thought it was ridiculous that in a world championship, you are not able to organise a door being closed during a shot. It’s the kind of reason which alienates the top players as it seems like an amateur tournament.

But I have to say I can’t stand it when some says ‘Chill’ or ‘Calm down’ when someone is calm. It’s so condescending. I didn’t like that from Ronnie…

That's what I thought until I heard a replay of the conversation. Wait a tick...

There's a stream of people coming in right in front of his shot.

Ronnie goes and sits down.
5 seconds later she comes over to speak to him
He says he can't take the shot while people are coming in.
She says "it's closed now"
He starts to say something back respectfully
She interrupts him and (sounding anxious) says, "yeah but you know..."
Ronnie says "yeah but relax. Relax, I'm going to play the sho"
Her "yeah but we might wait 20 minutes, you know what I mean?"
He gets up and walks towards the table and says "there's no 20 minutes just chill"
she says "I am chilled"

she wasn't, and she shouldn't be interfering like that.

Ok fair enough, I think both were being a bit silly there.

But the bigger problem is how can they allow people to walk in during the middle of the shot? It was happening even after the argument when she promised the door was closed. They want to say this is the big, world tournament but then can’t close the door and act like this is jolly in a pub. You can’t have it both ways.

Yeah both were a bit silly. I like Desi though. She is the best current female ref.

I think it's been blown all out of proportion - you can hear the ref say someone make sure the door is closed, but nobody does, not for a good while. I mean how many years have we been at the Crucible, and yet for some reason such an issue has never really happened before, to this extent.

And whilst Ronnie is a great player, he is not a great ambassador for the sport. He is a bit of a rebel, doesn't really like authority, but I mean he's said he wouldn't tell his kids to take up snooker?

He wants to be treated with respect, but it works both ways. Does he get treated particularly badly? I don't think so. If he wants to go and grab money, fair enough, but he's chosen to put his academy in Saudi, rather than trying to encourage kids here to play.

Watching Ronnie play is great, but what comes out of his mouth you got to take with a huge pinch of salt

Ronnie is indeed an idiot for saying the Refs have it in for him. He has been grumpy to every ref apart from maybe the older ones in the 90s or Jan Verhaas.

I don’t get the backlash to the kids comment. They asked his opinion and he gave it. Whether anyone likes the answer or not, it’s his opinion. His mental health hasn’t been the best and the venues or not anywhere near why they were when they had the tobacco sponsorship and he doesn’t want his kids going through the same. I don’t see the problem with that at all.

However, he is quite disrespectful when talking about snooker and at times acts like he’s above it. I don’t really like that and he could choose his words better. But I genuinely think there’s nothing wrong with him giving his opinion.

But Ronnie's mental health issues aren't due to snooker are they? He would have these issues whatever he did in life. I am sure if you asked any other top player, they would say, I have had a great life thanks to snooker. Of course snooker is grateful to have a player like Ronnie, but Ronnie should be grateful for what snooker has given him.

It's the number of times he says I'm going to quit etc etc, he just sounds like he wants to whinge. Maybe it's just how he copes with life, but acknoweledge that snooker has given you a good life, and if nothing else, financial security.
You wouldn't here other sportsmen talking down their sport so much

I don't have an issue with any of the refs, I think they are of a good standard, male or female.
