Onana is absolutely an upgrade on last season's De Gea, yes.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

If you really think that then give up on football.

Whilst DDG did make some mistakes last season he wasn't as bad as Onana has been?

Have you actually watched his technique? He doesn't even dive correctly and Ben Foster and Schmeichel have been saying it for months. One of those two is our best keeper of all time. Think he knows his stuff.

Onana is hopeless. He's been a shocking signing.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Almost every useful metric last season had De Gea as one of the worst keepers in the league. Almost every measurable metric has Onana outperforming him this season comfortably.

You are going to dismiss the above, because you're exactly the type of guy to tell us all "STATS MEAN NOTHING I KNOW WHAT I SAW!!" But you've conveniently wiped from your mind how horrendous De Gea was last season.

This isn't some defence of Onana - I think we could've done better. But to think the players didn't feel what a shambles De Gea was last season is lunacy.

The GK who won player of the year 4 times in 10 years?

..:.

I never said he wasn’t a great keeper for us. He was utter $hite though in his last season and the manager didn’t want him for the way he wanted to play from the back. This is not an excuse for the rest of the team to not want to play for a manager.

That is why your comment was dog t@rd.

Have a go at putting some rational thought into your posts just for once.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

We finished with the most clean sheets last season in the entire division.

Yeah he made some high profile mistakes but Onana has made just as many so.i don't see where the progression is?

Onana's technique when diving is laughable. A few ex keepers in the media have picked up on it.

Don't know why some of you are having a hard time with this point. We've bought another dud. It's what we do isn't it?

That was more down to the defence than DDG. He was $hite last season. If you watched the games you would know.

I have some issues with Onana ATM but would like to see how he does with a settled back 4 and a better protective midfield in front of the back 4, next season will be pivotal for him one way or another

posted on 12/5/24

Just seen a stat that DDG apparently made 17 mistakes that directly led to goals in 450 games. Incredible.

Onana must be at half that already. 😂

We have bigger issues than Onana for the immediate future, so he'll get another chance next season. Just not sure how much things will improve in front of him.....it's going to be an interesting summer

He can be a serviceable keeper with that, especially if it’s a back four and midfield that will allow us to use his strengths sweeping up behind and his ball playing.

Not convinced he’ll ever be an elite keeper, though. But at this moment it’s not really something we need to be too concerned about given the mess with the outfield squad.

Honestly though, it's okay to not rate Onana. But to still be pining for effing De Gea is insane. He wasn't just bad last season, he was bad in his last 5 seasons. And nobody has been stupid enough to sign him since. I don't get how anybody could have watched us as often as you did last season and been blind to just how awful he was

----------------------------------------------------------------------

He's not an upgrade. He's made as many mistakes as DDG did. Onana made about 5 absolute howlers in the CL group stage alone.

He's made plenty in the league too. Some from poor passes out and some from poor technique.

And it's not just a trade we did. We spent £50m to do this too so that has to be factored in as well.

We've have been better off keeping DDG and spending the £50m on a CB or CM in reality. We've signed a ball playing GK and we don't even fully utilise him because the rest of the team wasn't ready for it.

Stupidity.

I was okay with replacing DDG. That's the whole point. With his wages and his form definitely dropping off a bit I thought it made sense.

This isn't an improvement. We've spent £50m on this guy. He's the 4th most expensive keeper of all time isn't he?

We should have replaced him with someone better.

Do you think Roy Keane thinks Haaland should be playing in league two?

Rooney is wrong. The players who are out injured have been taking the criticism all season. Why is two more games going to change anything?

Agree to disagree. He's made plenty of high profile mistakes. If was a petty man I'd go and get a clip of each one off YouTube.

We've all become so numb to losing every week that you forget how many there has been. Onana has made lots of mistakes too. Too many really but we seem to be stuck with him for another season

We should have replaced him with someone better. But he is still an upgrade because De Gea was awful and had been for a few years.

Your whole argument was that the players were upset with ETH because he got rid of a crap keeper who was their mate, so now arent playing for him. If you genuinely think that, we have bigger problems than ETH. Much bigger problems.

Rooney even said 'ive seen it happen over the years'. He's talking from personal experience as a player. He's managed football clubs and players, but you don't believe him yet whatever Schmeichel says is gospel?
