Good player when fit but fitness has been the biggest issue for him for some time. We simply can rely on him for large parts of the season.
Hopefully more of the crocks will be moved on.
This is a good start.
Whilst it looked good for a time last season with Martinez you cannot have a CB who misses so many matches.
Problem with Varane is that it was clear he had fitness issues before we bought him but we still went ahead. Hopefully moving forward we can actually do a bit of research into things like this.

Yep. Same thing with Mason Mount. It's a surprise to no one but our recruitment team apparently that he's spent the whole season injured.
Lots if talk about Olise at the moment who has had hamstring issues the past year or so. Hopefully just a one off.
Fine with me, too big a wage for someone who is rarely available these days. From what I have seen in the media from him (eg, too many games, heading is dangerous). Im not that sure his heart is really in it.

Anyone involved in that who did not say no, should be sacked. Injuries aside, he just isn't that good and I don't care how many player of the season awards he won at Chelsea.
We've been clearing out sh-t for years, the problem is we keep buying new ones. Only 3 players (AWB, Dalot and Garnacho) who started against Palace were with the first team squad before EtH joined.

It was painfully obvious just how average a player he is when he was at Chelsea. This is one signing that really did baffle me
how much did we flog him to yous for ?
told ya without Sergio Ramos holding his hand telling him what to do he was gash
but yous didn't listen

He wasn't though. He just had muscles made of marshmallow
Good luck on your next injury adventure Rafa
I think he’s actually been quite underrated by many of our fans.
However with his wages and fitness record letting him go is probably the right choice.

He isn't gash though. He is injury prone which has nothing to do with Ramos.
Years of covering for an inferior defender have finally taken it's toll though it would seem.
Quality player but I think he struggled mentally with the impact the game had had on him.
A classy player just overcome by too many injuries, would make a great defensive coach in how to position yourself and read the game
Best CB we’ve signed since Rio/Vida
We've sold Real quality players over the years, in return they've flogged us outcasts for stupid sums of money. Hopefully, never again!
In addition to the injuries, he was part of the tactical issue for any coach who wanted to play out from the back, because he just isn't that secure on the ball. Surrounded by elite technicians, that's fine, but surrounded by DDG, AWB, Maguire, McFred, Casemiro he was another of the players we could do with replacing with someone comfortable receiving and passing under pressure.

Lack of fitness was the reason Real sold him, we bought a name but were ignorant of his injury history, it does appear injury history is something we keep ignoring more than anyone else.

Best in terms of overall career. Lisandro has reached higher levels than Varane at United. Best CBs signed since Vidic:
1. Martinez
2. Shaw
3. Smalling
4. Varane
The buys of Casemiro and Varane pretty much show the blinkered chaotic approach to our transfer activities in recent years
