my opinions haven't changed.

his football is boring and there were far too many poor performances for my liking. Even in matches we won.

i don't think he was helped by our appalling transfer windows, yet again spearheaded by PL and his "sign brilliant players cheap so we can sell them" plan.

we won't progress as a club like that, its throwing schit at the wall and hoping it sticks.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

What do you think is a reasonable expectation level that could be within our grasp and being that much better than we are or have been over the last good few years?

Completely agree that the plastic pitches look brutal and can be terrible to play on. But I also see my local club raith rovers, who have a plastic pitch, their ground is in use 7 days a week with loads of kids football as well as the senior and junior teams playing and training on it. With the limited infrastructure that Kirkcaldy and raith have, the synthetic pitch has been a huge positive to the community and the club, as that would necessarily have to stop should they make it to the premiership and the vote goes the way we might expect.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The issue is local government abdicating responsibility for a clear community need - one that fulfils their empty rhetoric about healthy living. It really ought not to be down to Rovers to fulfil that. If it makes them money it can't be that much in the scheme of things and if that is what they need to 'survive' then brutally again it probably says they are too diddy and unsustainable to be admitted.

europes an odd one for me mate, the champions league, pleasant though it is, is brutal viewing, we are not at that level mentally or physically. Between rodgers and ange we have been ridiculously naive at that level and though some may disagree, Lennon had a more realistic approach to competing at that level, as did strachan.

see when ange was manager, i wasn't bothered about europe that much because i enjoyed going to games every week, they were worth looking forward to.

the financial rewards of the champions league are huge but would love to see us do something in europa or conference league.

champions league is pie in the sky stuff, i just want us to set up sensibly.

I’d love it if local government had enough money to be able to meet the need. But with their current budget constraints in Fife, they simply can’t afford to. So we either have a situation where a local community club owned by a local consortium provide this vital piece of community infrastructure, or the infrastructure goes.

I agree it shouldn’t have to be down to rovers, but it is. As I said above the plastic pitches look brutal etc, but we should recognise the value that their use can provide to local communities and that should play into the decision.

I see we are linked with a goalie in Germany who's a free agent. No idea if it's true and no idea if he's any good, so my following cynical comment is based on our last 2-3 windows. Would be typical of us to take someone like that than pay for someone better 🤣 yes, I am aware that Hart was also a free agent

Being a free agent these days doesn’t carry the “stigma” as it used to in making it appear as though nobody wants the player.

It’s very much the reality that the player has deliberately manufactured the circumstances so that they benefit most from their next move. Pretty astute to be honest.

I’d rather we signed a full team of good players who have run their contracts down and pay them more (I know) than get into the bi annual haggling with other clubs who will inevitably dikk us around

i don't feel like we exploit precontracts enough tbh

We haven’t in the past but I believe we are improving in that regard.

You can bet on PL sniffing out a shiny shilling at any opportunity

I know that, but my sarcasm was about taking someone who is free, rather than pay for better, because it fits our Board's mentality. Especially bloating the squad with hope rather than quality

posted on 21/5/24

yeah we aren't going for them because they are savvy, we're doing it cause they are free.

PL is always after the next naka, someone who can earn off the park as well.

I’d like to think we would opt for the best fit option but our transfer window debacles over the last 3-4 windows would suggest otherwise.

I genuinely believe it will change for the better this time round as the prospect of a board sitting on £160m+ in cash that isn’t being used as working capital to benefit the club and infrastructure is simple negligence and believe it or not; the interest and share price would suffer.

At the end of the day the club is a business.

I've had the same views on this for the past 15 or so years.

maybe 2 big signings and you could still get some of the cheaper ones, like holm for example, who seems like a banger anyway.

people say its risky and we can afford it, we just shat 15 milllion against the wall with very little room for return, never mind the wages. The contribution of our signings last season was minimal at best.

Kuhn - don't think theres much there
Palma - has something i think maybe a player in there somewhere.
rocky - i'd like to see him get more game time.

the rest were schite.

When was the last time we spent more than £5m on a player, and it didn’t work out well? Of our top 20 highest fees paid, I’d argue 5 didn’t work out. Ajeti and Barkas in the same window was poor, then you’ve Berkovic, Rafeal (a similarly poor season) and Rocky, where the jury is still out.

Generally though, when we spend more than £5m it works out. And with what we have in the bank, we should be able to bring in at least a couple players in the £6-9m bracket.

same with all teams in this day in age.... for eg team comes to celtic... much for Oriley.... PL" 40m" .....

Same with Jota 25m or more he was worth to celtic, but next manager is expected to replace him with 2m players

PL then will turn around to the manager and say now find a better player than Oriley for 2m.

Obv none of this is exclusive to Celtic, it is the case for most teams around the globe.

I do think we are a little hindered in the sense that there seems to be a barrier of value we have in scotland of that 25-30m bracket that hasnt been broken yet

We have already spent that on Diomande and the Silva loan.

All part of the cunning financial masterplan.

Reality is we are a bit fooked.

Can they not just blow the whistle on the season now and put us out of our misery?

If we need to start Leon King at the weekend I would put Idah up against him - he will win every single ball. Nice enough footballer but weak as pash in the air and zero real defensive instincts.

posted on 21/5/24

BTW - Kyogo hasnt scored in the last two games against Rangers - a streak I personally cant see lasting much longer, particularly given the fact we are down to two centre backs that have been completely out the picture this season (for obvious reasons).

For me saturdays value bet is Celtic to win Kyogo anytime goalscorer at 9/4.

Stevie - get yer hard earned on it mate!
